Well, after about a month and a half of waiting, I finally got my vanity license plates for my Grand Marquis to actively show where my interest and enthusiasm belongs. May I present to you…SBLOCO1.
But…I got to thinking…How could I do more??? I was looking at the license plates on my car…And then it came to me. Custom license plate frames. But how? My older brother mentioned using some spare N scale track…And I took it one step further and said railroad spikes! So, yesterday while running around for car stuff, I dropped by Advanced Auto Parts and picked up some plain plastic license plate frames. When I got home, I broke out the track and spikes.
After doing a bit of configuration and playing with a few ideas, I decided on the final arrangement.
I cleaned the spikes as best as I could, then took some emery paper to them to get the majority of the rust off; grabbed a can of black Rustoleum paint, and went to town. After a few coats and giving them a good time to dry, I brought them inside.
The track was glued on first, then the spikes were secured using black plastic wire ties. Because of the texture of the spike, the rails, and the spike head fitting over the frame, they are not going to move. The next three pictures are the final pieces I made last night.
A person in my nieghborhood has an F350 with a huge lift and massive tires, in the back there is an air compressor and on top of the cab is a big 5 chime horn. Im thinking that cant be legal but it sure is loud.
Scott, you are not just right are you?[:)] But neither am I or I would have not seen this post. Hum, 409, W motor? Make mine a 426 if you are a 1:1 car guy.
DragonRiverSteel: Believe it or not, I have actually considered both of those. A custom made cowcatcher is easily possible…But hy-railers are a different story…
CudaKen: Actually, no…Not a 409. My screen name came from the Beach Boy’s song. The Marquis sports the 302 EFI 5.0 straight from the Mustang.
ModelTrainMan: Nope, not kidding at all.[:D] In fact, if you would like to see the airhorns, here they are…
Flextrack license plate frame, That’s pretty cool[tup]. And on a car-related note, I’m buying a '98 Crown Vic interceptor in a few days, complete with pushguard… just begs for a train related mod, like a faux coupler, and an air line[:o)]. But I’ll probably stick to performance mods though…BTW, what year is your car?
Have you seen Monster Garage when Jesse James had some railroaders convert a Dodge Magnum to car that can go on road and rails. They even put on a cow catcher
