I am lucky enough to have help with painting, tree making, and scenery on my layout.
I was wondering if my fellow MRR’s receive assistance from your wives/ girlfreinds or do
they feel you spend more time with your trains than with them?[xx(]
i’m lucky/unfortunate to not have a girlfriend. i’m in high school and not the most popular person or the “hottest” person so to speak. i’ve had girlfriends but not when i was into the hobby. seeing as i’m just starting and decided to get into the hobby maybe 3 weeks ago. i haven’t really told anyway. if i did have a girlfriend and i was in high school they’d probably laugh at me or something and break up with me. oh well i guess not having a girlfriend leaves me with more money to spend on things for the layout and for me.
A what? You mean there’s more to life than just trains?!
My girlfriend is as avid a model railroader as I am. So we have fun going train chasing and bonding over layout construction. We are getting ready to build her first model railroad. Based on varius scenes of Vermont Rail Systems
The neat thing is, if and when we get married, the debate isn’t going to be if we can have a model railroad as a kitchen table. Its going to be what railroad is it?
Oh My, i can see the house now, they’re won’t be a room without some sort of train meandering around it. Oh and I bet the couch will have upolstry that has train print on it too. At night the bedroom will have the consta sounds of a steamer chugging around the top of the room, the light shining along the walls in the darkness.
Hmm…and maybe it’ll have a depot in the basement where all the trains wandering through the various parts of the house head to for repairs and others are dispacthed to take their places. The kids will be served dinner on Portable Tables in the shapes of various Rolling stock, a Train will take dinner from the kitchen and deliver it to the table. The garage will be built to resemble a car carrier, with an attached storage shed in the shape of a caboose.
there is something wrong with girlfriends or wives who dont allow there signaficant other to do what they like but maybe thats just me considering i have always been a female railfan and into trains, trains to me are very relaxin and comfortating there is nothing more i enjoy then train chasing and the sound of a horn at a crossing, maybe i am a one of a kind or whatever but i am sure as hell not afraid to admit i love more like have a strong feelin towards trains.Trains are a great hobby and the one thing i hate is being insulted cus i am a female railfan by others no matter if they are male or female too bad i love trains and nothing is ever goin to change that. long live trains. thanks and sorry to put all this mumbo jumbo but like i said i am a female railfan and i stand proud.
by the way i am greyhound challengers gf
Didnt mean to exclude the ladies out there! I am glad to see women involved in the hobby. Most people
think of it as a male dominated hobby. So let me rephrase my question. I’ll add : And do any Women
get help from thier husbands/boyfriends? Soooo sorry Dave
you are ok didnt mean it to be rude or anything i am just statin there are some female railfans out there very few but some i guess. thanks
Just doin’ my thing and enjoying it. My wife of 35 years has no interest in MRR however she lets me buy what I need and do what I want [:)] so in a way that is getting assistance. My 2 daughters, 2 son-in-laws and 4 grandchildren have no interest in MRR. [:(]
I’m 47, and available if there are any women out there who would like to marry a train dude. [:D]
I can get my wife to come out to train events and do some train watching, but she refuses to help with the layout. I am fortunate in that she is understanding of the time and $$$ aspects of the hobby. Ironically she is searching for a hobby…
Go figure…
Have her try scrapbooking - my wife is more into that than I am into trains. Check out www.twopeasinabucket.com
My wife thinks there is something developmentally wrong with me because I have what she considers a childs hobby and she can’t bring herself to even visit the layout. She never really complains, she just looks at me like you do a new puppy that just crapped on the floor everytime I say trains, you know, slight smile with eyes rolled back in her head. I never buy anything in her presence and never ask to go to a hobby shop when she is with me. She has this thing for faries and it takes me an extra 10 min to mow because of all of them winged women in the yard. So I pay her back when she mentions faries or wants to stop at a yard ornament store. But you know, I don’t really mind her faries, I can always use them in arguements, and some of them are pretty hot lookin’. FRED
I like to use my model rr as my means of escape and fun when I’m at home alone. Either reading a book, magazine, or building a model on a rainy day or a late night after a stressed day of work. My friends don’t seem to care much about my layout, and I never bore them with the details. But they are impressed with the setup. Only problem is that everyone always wants to “Gun” your trains at full speed if they get the chance to try them out, so I keep my old slow moving Bachman F9 handy for those visitors.
[V][V][V][V][V][V][V][V][V][V][V][V][V][V][V][V][V][V] I’m in my early 20’s and have never had a significant other. Back in high school, I didn’t tell anyone what I like to do. And I never conversated too much either. No body knew I was a railroader and I’m pretty sure no high school girls would dig that. [:(] I went to an extemely ghetto high school, very dangerous [B)], safer if I didn’t reveal personal information. [:(!]
I never in my life got the feeling a woman has had intrest in me [V][V][V]
I feel your pain man, I felt the same way until I met my girlfriend. I thought I was one of those guys destined to be single all of his life becasue he just didn’t have what women want. I had stopped looking altogether. Then this girl that I became friends with and had been for about a year suddenly announces out of the blue that she is tired of waiting for me to ask her to be my girlfriend, so she was asking me to her boyfriend.
All I have to say is that it will take time. If you make friends, and be a nice person, some girl will find you the right fit for her and want to be with you. Thats what happened with me.
James.
I don’t have a special anyone, and if I had, I’m sure she’d loath the hobby, I mean, I don’t know anyone who enjoys this whos under the age of 50.
There’s railroaders in da’ hood! Check out the website I do for Locke High just down the street from Watts in LA (www.lockesaints.com) I don’t live there but my high school was pretty tuff as well. Athearn is “Straight Outta Compton”.
AggroJones - The community needs you to be strong, have a wife, children and set a great example!
Peace
Plenty under 50 that enjoy it, even women.
