Simple signal circuit. QSI Decoders.

Hello, I have three Broadway QSI equipped Loco’s 2 x SD40-2’s 1x Class J and a Proto 2000 2-8-8-2, all with QSI.

They all respond to DC block signalling control ( page 171 QSI manual ) except the class J which continues tru the block with full DCC control.

The two SD-40’s and the 2-8-8-2 stop if the diode is in circuit and continue on when DCC is switched back in.

The Class J does not stop and remains under DCC control?

I have checked all the CV’s and they all appear the same as the other loco’s. I have done a full reset and then made sure DC conversion is enabled.

Any suggestions?

Thankyou, Ken.

I’ve answered my own question, apparantly the diodes, IN4004, I used either don’t have a high enough current rating or not fast enough at conducting ( I think ) the Class J might be exceding the diode ratings.

For anybody else interested a UF5408 diode in series with one rail will make a dcc loco with dc conversion capabilities ( ie runs on DCC or DC ) stop and basically idle with lights sound etc until DCC is applied again ( diode removed ) . If the loco continues thru the isolated diode section you have the diode round the wrong way.

I have a very simple signal circuit for DCC or DC equipped loco’s

Wow, that’s a nice little layout you’ve built there Ken http://www.railimages.com/gallery/kenmackay
Lovely workmanship - an inspiration for embarking on my own project

Ken,

What an absolutely neat way to incorporate a layout in a small area. Wow!

Thankyou very much!!

It had to be tidy before it came inside ( built it in the garage first ) The Mrs picked the colours, chocolate all the rage at the moment.

The layout is just basically for running trains and some switching. The clickity clack across the bridge is fantastic.

Good luck with your new project Rob, mayby I’ll pop up sometime.
