The lawmakers said they are interested in what it would take to create what are called “quiet zones” in the city that would require the city to build more gated crossings, thus reducing the number of times train engineers would need to sound their horns.

Senior City Civil Engineer Larry Popoola reported that a quiet zone must be at least one-half mile long “no matter how many crossings you have.”

Just what is the "proper " term ? ? Horn or whistle??? or who cares??

In many cases, the people who dream up these “quiet zones” have absolutely no idea of the realities of day to day railroading. Still, ignorance, and in some cases proven stupidity doesn’t deter them in their quest for a perfect world. Keep in mind that these are the same people, who , if involved in an accident with a train in a “quiet zone”, would lawyer up in a minute to sue the railroad for not giving ample warning at a grade crossing. Forgive me Gang, but this is kind of a hot button issue with me.
