Does anyone else have a problem with this server being awfull slow. I access this website from 3 different computers and have the same problem on all 3 of them.

Steve
I access this site on three computers: one has dial up, one is hooked into a T1 line, and the other is just a little slower than the T1 line computer.

same problem…I can’t even get to my email
is it because of volume?
I’m on a T1 and I’m good.
Whether dial-up or T1, for the most part it’s good. But there are those moments during the day when it is excrutiatingly slow. Funny thing. I click on this post entitled “Slow Server”, and after about 15 seconds of hesitation and gyration, a screen pops up telling me that “Your connection has timed out”.
While waiting for an extraordinate amount of time for a page to load or a response to post on the forum, I’ve tested the Internet connection to see if loading other pages are that slow. Most of the time, they pop right up. My guess then is that the server is becoming bottlenecked with folks posting ALL at the same time. But I have noticed it slow, even when there isn’t much traffic on the forum.
I know that MR is planning in the next few months to transfer over to a different software package and I’m sure that will probably be evident in the user interface that we’ve become accustom to. I don’t know if any server issues will be addressed as well.
I guess the bottom line is: It’s FREE…and for what we have to pay for it, we just need to be longsuffering and patient during those slooooooooow times. Wish I had a more definitive answer for you, Steve.
Tom
yes at times it is unbearably slow . other times it’s pretty fast
it’s always worth waiting for [:)]
I am on DS3 at work and cable broadband at home, and my download speed is about the same on both (DS3 is a little faster). Hopefully with the new software, it will work out some of the kinks some folks are having.
There’s a bucketload of reasons you can see slow response, other applications in the datacenter hogging the network (backups will do this), one or more servers in a round robin down for maintenence, a flaky Crisco router trying to deal with both IP and IPX and getting buried in SAPS because some executive had the bright idea to add Lotusnotes on a Netware tree to a Win2K domain, and the code weenies got even by using a MS gateway to the Netware side, the list can go on for pages.
The important thing to note is that the problem is on THEIR end, not your’s, which you ensure by hitting other webpages to see if they load slow or not.
Unless…well, you DID “take care” of Bergie this month, didn’t ya?
If not, just make the check out to me and I’ll make sure it gets where it’s supposed to.
I did the “other site” test, too, Tom, when I complained about it a few months back. Railimages popped right up, as did many of my other favourites, but this server is d.e.a.d. slooooooooowwwww.
Bergie has reported to us that they will do a major renovation before long…very good news.
