Small Bolts

Hi all
I recently bought a beginners battery locomotive from I P Engineering http://www.ipengineering.co.uk/
click on diesle petrol locomotives you will find lucy on the right hand
side of the page
Being the cheaper end of the market its held together with self taping screws
Does anyone know where I can get 2.5mm X 6MM or equivelant hex head bolts nuts flat and lock washers from as these would improve the apearance when used in visable areas.
regards John

John,
Finding stuff smaller than 3mm is very difficult in your typical local hardware sources. I needed some 2.5mm stuff to replace some I lost when working on a USA engine and I had to call USA to get them to send me some…they were not free.
I did find some 2.5mm stuff in local hobby shops in the R/C car parts. They were typically recessed heads.
Another possibility is the bag of bols/screws sold by Aristocraft and LGB. Don’t know if they have what you need but they include a nice variety of sizes.

Hi oldokie
Thanks for your thoughts they got me out of the manuer on a domestic chore
but no luck for modeling.
I have since found a source for BA bolts in Aus and have some small headed 8BA bolts nuts washers and lock washers on there way.
They aparently will do the job I want and because of the smaller head will look better as well.
You have also given me a thought for where I might get a final drive unit
and small enough universal joints for an at this stage only proposed locomotive for a lets learn how to build a battery loco form scratch project I am trying to arrange with a friend for the next time I am on leave.

John,
Sorry about that. I was not paying attention to your location. My comments were assuming you were here in the USA somewhere. I don’t have a clue how well my comments might apply to your location.

Hi Paul
No need to appologiise I would have ordered from the US if I had too
its cheaper than buying local even with post and packing then some charges just for the sake of charges and some things you just cannot get here.
I had a pack of Aristo and LGB small screws that I had not thought of
looking in for something suitable.
You are dead right about tiny bolts being hard to find for imperial they would be 1/4 long I had to order 3/8 because the 1/4 ones are not made any more.

Besides your comment on Rc cars has made making a battery powered
Price monstrosity one more step closer to being a reality its a stange looking beast based very loosly around a tractor with a 4-4-0 wheel arangment the front wheels for that will have to come from the UK so ordering a few bits or bolts from elswhere in the world is not an issuie
regards John

Just a thought I have no Idea of their pricing or know anything about this company, but in the recent GR mag the is an add for screws, web site from the ad is http://microfasteners.com
I hope this helps
