This was on the ebound SW Chief Sun. My mom caught the train at ABQ returining back to KS. The train was already late into ABQ and after all the delays did not depart until 5;pm four hrs late. All psgrs were put off the train until an inspection was made, the car set out, psgrs crammed into the two other coaches. After departing everyone was given a free supper in the diner. Several psgrs–mainly older people–were quite upset about the jerk who caused much trouble for travelers. Hope the law punishesthisdude to the fullest extent.
Smoking ANYTHING on Amtrak is a bad idea. All the trains are now smoke free. Made it interesting with the smoker stops on the Empire Builder I rode in early September. These people are so addicted, they were trying to get off for a few puffs, even if it wasn’t a long enough stop. The Conductor finally had to threaten to leave them behind.
It DOES make the air a lot cleaner for the rest of us on the train, especially now that smoking’s popularity is on the down slide.
