Oh boy !! I wish I could make it too !! I wonder if they send soup on the train !! [(-D]
I do hope it reopens like it is again someday !!
Thanks, John
My dad and I used to go there a lot. No they did not serve soup on the trains. It was basically a 50’s dinner. There was one large oval I would say like 50ft long hooked up to 072. The last time I was there they had a Lionel MPC engine pulling some homemade flat cars. It would pull up and you took your food.
On the shelf I remember they had a 1055 Texas Special and a 2023 Union Pacific.
Nice place.
I’ve been there too - interestingly, there’s at least two other places doing this same thing - delivering your food via O gauge railroad - in the Chicago area.
Lately, they’ve been running a UP GE unit pulling flats - each with a plastic basket containing your burger and fries - no drinks or soup - the train just flies along the track.
Lived in Seattle for a few years and the Iron Hosrse Inn did the same thing. It was a landmark but closed a few yrs ago. Need to open one of those in Ohio.
Just like that episode oh cheers.
The Choo-Choo restaurant in DesPlaines, IL is still alive and kickin. Close to DesPlaines Hobby and the airport for you travelers coming this a way.
When I was little there was a drug store that sent your prescription back to the pharmacist on a train and he would send the pills back on the train. I think it was a GP-7/9 with a gondola.
How complicated is it to set up such a delivery system and properly maintain it?
