Nice looking wedge plow. I wonder how long that paint will remain pristine once you start bucking drifts…[:-^]

Of course there are different varieties of snow:

  • “Just a few flakes. The pilot plows can handle it.”
  • “Weather Channel says expect up to six inches. Tell the Road Foreman to have a good loco ready for the plow train.”
  • “Blowing snow, drifting in the cuts. Better assign two units.”
  • “What the…WHOOMPH!!! D***, it’s dark in here! Whole [censored] hill musta slid.”

Be careful about what you wish for. You might get it.

Thanks Dave. You certainly had me at a disadvantage there, at least until I took another look at the photo: very observant. I was up there checking out the former CNR station, which was for sale, but the zoning prohibited its use as a residence. Would’ve been great for railfanning from your kitchen table, with Rail Link running right by the window on its way to and from the harbour.

tomkat- 13, thanks for the photo of the jet-powered snow melter (and ballast remover). The steel plant where I used to work ran one of them. I saved the photo so that I can show what they look like, next time somebody asks. [swg]

If you subscribe to the mythology of Global Warming then according to something I read on MSNBC this afternoon in about fifty years - if you live in New England - you will probably wait until you are blue in the face for snow!

I’m anxious to see them begin pumping seawater out of the basement of Grand Central myself - or the Big Ditch!

One of the members here (I haven’t seen a post from them in a while) built a rotary plow for his garden railroad using the motor from an electric drill, if I recall correctly. He even had video of it in action and it was REALLY cool. Does anybody know who I am talkin’ about?

I would love to see that in action when its gets super cold after a fresh small-snowflake powdery snowfall… the snow should fly off the plow like its full size kin! This show seemed just a wee bit wet, at least it was in Seacoast NH where I live…

Hello well I don’t want to sound silly. But why can’t you use a burn-somatic torch? And some different tips to make a jet snow melter? Or would the heat mess with the track? It sure would be cool to see it work. A blue flame coming out of the front of that thing or is it just heat?

smcgill that should blow powdery snow my leaf blower will on low and its a cheap blower. Have a nice day Frank

Your snow fighting equipment looks very nice! I prefer to use a 1952 Farmall H with a weatherbreaker and a plow mounted on a 3 point hitch (but that’s for driveways). haha

I have a Chicago and Northwestern Snowplow on my layout because it’s unique and I got it cheap.
