Yes David thank you so much I don’t know to much about British Railroading, but I sure do enjoy luring.

Because the Railway Companies had to arrive at either Leeds City or Central stations billions of bricks were made to make viaducts to arrive at both destinations. Viaducts were miles long.
David
Are those viaducts still in use? and do you have photos?
Chuck
David, you should start a separate thread to capture the attention of more folks.
Rich
Yes please do. I love the history of all Railroading.

New York, Chicago and Saint Louis? New York state, yes. New York City, no! Saint Louis? No way! What do you want from Senney’s great nickel plated railroad?
The Nickel Plate Road didn’t go to St. Louis? I guess all the maps of it are wrong.
The interchanges on the Missouri side must be a mistake, too.
Jeff
The Nickel Plate district, which was the original Nickel Plate Road, did not reach Saint Louis. (As implied by the invocation of the name “Senney”.) With the addition of the Clover Leaf, Lake Erie and Western and Wheeling and Lake Erie districts yes, the Nickel Plate did reach Saint Louis.
But it did reach St. Louis under the New York, Chicago and St. Louis name.
Jeff
One has to remember, Railroads in the 19th Century were the ‘Dot Com Bubble’ of the age. Building railroads required money in mass quantities and no salesmen would tout bonds to build a property between Podunk and Nowhere - therefore the railroad had to have ‘grand’ names to facilitate the financing for construction.
You gotta just love that.
Rich
Who would give money to the Bob and Mike rail line. Good point BaltACD

Here’s a layout of part of the Great Pullman Works:

I’ve got to dig up the site where I pulled this map from. It was Library of Congress but finding it again, so I can get further details, might take a while.
I still have my pass if anyone wants to take a tour:

Here in the U.K. we had a railway with the grand title of East & West Yorkshire Union Railway.

Actually the Big four was the Cleveland, Cincinnati, Chicago and St. Louis Railway. So, it did have some idea.

And, here is the former Pullman Clock Tower and Administration Building, opened as the Pullman National Monument Visitor Center in September 2021.
