So the forum frowns on politics, fine, but why the locking of scientific debates?

I just find it confounding that every time we end up debating a scientific subject such as global warming, the thread gets locked. Yet there is also a thread about the Second Amendment (e.g. purely political) that preceeded the oil price thread, and it continues unabated.

Someone help me out here.

Is science defined as an offshoot of politics? Or should we include scientific debate as a no-no within the structure of forum rules?

Like it or not, the debate over global warming/carbon caps has a huge impact on the future of US railroads.

Okay, so I’m a little miffed that I spent several hours collecting data to present on the oil price thread, only to have it locked off 5 minutes later! Aaaarrrrggggg!

Crandell, maybe you could give us a warning shot or two so that we can discern if a thread is about to enter lockdown, if for no other reason than to keep some of us from wasting our time in superfluous data gathering? Thanks.

I feel better now.

Just don’t bring up waving…

Yes…for heavens sake…DO NOT WAVE AT MELTING ICEBERGS!

can we wave at the polar bears going under water?

Only if there is a train in the background.

In a field?

By a bridge…with sky…

The following comment appearing in the thread “Could Steam make a comeback” may be one reason why some threads get locked:

“However, it appears that the AGW brown shirts will need to be placated by some federal response despite the reality that facts say otherwise.”

Calling a group of people “brown shirts” is political, unnecessary, and not normally associated with a professional scientifc debate.

Just a thought…

I do not wave! Period!

If you wave and the railfans don’t see it… is it really a wave at all?

Only Joe knows the answer to such deep questions. He can plan his load.

The wisdom that floweth from a simple pizza delivery man…

From pizza to Load Specialist. Quite the jump.

…and protecting the homeland on the side. God Bless America.

Can’t forget “fired” 911 Dispatcher from the Maplewood, MN Police Department.

just a technicality.

Such professionals. And we just schlep for a living.

Schlepping is fine, just don’t ruin it for the rest of us railfans.

I am just too arrogant anyways.

All of us rails are. Comes with the job, I guess.
