So what other hobbies do you have other than model railroading ?...

Another Amateur Radio Operator (KB3GGP) here, reading, music (Progressive Rock fan), guitar lessons on Monday nights and Go Seahawks (NFL), Sabres (NHL) and Phillies.

Skiing (downhill), hiking, biking, traveling. I am retiring in a year (I am older than I look in my picture) and hope to be able to do more of everything, especially MR.

David

I’m into photography, camping, hiking and my 2nd favorite thing next to N-Gauge is computers. I build them for the family and friends. Lately, I’ve been experimenting with different Linux distros.

My other big hobby is riding motorcycles, some steet, mostly off road vintage bikes. used to race motocross, but getting to old for that. Also like messing with computers. Since starting into trains and taking pictures of them, photography may be added to the list.

Im 15

I ride/race quads, hence the name TRX450R racer

I do nitro R/C in the summer ( AE RC10GT)

hunting in the fall (deer & small game)

shooting year round (Remington 870 16 GA, Savage 20 GA, Remington 700 30-06, and my dad’s Ruger 30-06)

guitar when im bored

Model Railroading mostly in winter because I work in the summer but basicly anytime

Im outdoors person, I think i have enought o keep me busy[:D]

In addition to my model railroading I’m a 200+ average bowler, an eager texas hold’em tournament player, a brass musician that specializes on the trombone and a breeder of APA standard bred poultry.

Other hobbies come and go but those are the main ones.

I am a Batman collector, Star Wars collector, Godzilla collector. I build scale plastic model kits, cars, Sci-Fi ships, figures.

I have a die cast fire truck model collection which I have not added to for a while. In summer golf, fishing. I live right near a fairly large lake so a bit of boating. As a retired fire fighter I still have a interest in fire trucks.

Dave

I am a volunteer firefighter. This in itself is a hobby, I think. Fly fishing, fly tying, shooting, hunting and model trains are my hobbies.

Gotta love the expensive ones…

I’ve been in trains since I was about 5, I’m 63 now. Did R/C flying for about 25 years, Did Northwest native style carving about ten, Have built historiccal dioramas and models for differnt Churches and museums, and now mostly trains again but also do ships and Horse drawn wagons.

In addition to model railroading I spent a lot of time making chainmaille armor. I also like to play war games, but I’ve never been able to really stick with any- they either die out or I don’t keep interested.

Hash slinging. I hold the world’s record for distance (a four ounce scoop) at 178.5 yards and for accuracy. I can place a 2 1/2 inch diameter scoop of hash into a 6 in wide saucer at 83 yards.

Nit picking. Even at the age of 61, I can pick nits faster than people 40 years younger than I without sacrificing quality.

My grandchildren, children, wife and a number of innocent bystanders have informed me that I am a master in the art of… well, there’s a well known scene in the movie “Blazing Saddles” that pretty much covers the subject.

What follows isn’t really a hobby, but at one time I was a professional informed source/reliable authority of the kind that are frequently quoted by the press (as in “An informed source close to the President said today that…”). I co-founded (along with another person who wishes to remain anonymous) the North American University of Informed Sourcery and Reliable Authoritarianism. I can’t tell you where it’s located because that would be revealing a confidence. I can’t tell you what the qualifications are to get into the university, the graduation requirements or even if the school is accredited. You’ll have to trust me on this. If you show talent, the school will come looking for you.

Andre

I play Cornet in a local Brass Band ( been learning since 1962 - just getting the hang of it ),also own a classic 1958 Austin A95 Westminster. Drove prototype trains for 30 years, been modelling for 50. Eyesight may call for a change of scale soon!

Besides trains my other “hobbies” include:

Photography ( strictly 35mm )

Astronomy ( currently have a 90mm refractor, on order is a 10" Dobsonian )

Carpentry ( by nescessity originally, now I like to make projects )

Fishing ( not as frequently as I’d like to )

Other interests as a spectator are:

NASCAR

NHRA

Hockey ( Flyers )

Indoor Lacross ( Wings )

Skiing

Bobsledding

Photography, reading, travel & music. The music bit keeps me the busiest of any of them as I play keyboards in the worship band at church and do some composing and recording. My current noisemakers are Ensoniq SD1, Roland JV1080 & Alesis Ion synthesizers and I’ve got a song being released on a compilation CD this month.

Besides the model railroading, I play drums and help out at the local railroad museum. My other hobby turned into a career in vintage road racing and I currently run a 1960 Lotus 7 in several events a year and prepare and run cars for customers at 20 other events a year all over the eastern half of the U.S. J.R.
