Some pics from the first lap around the newly completed main line.

I finally completed the main line on my Saginaw & Western Railway this weekend (the glories of being iced in for 3 days). Below are a few pics documenting the first lap around the main–the first of many to come.

First two pics are rounding the big curve at Decatur, TX.

The third is crossing the Trinity River in north Fort Worth.

The final pic is traveling the main through Nort Yard in Saginaw, TX–a northern suburb of Fort Worth.

Wow, looking good, Ron ! Nice work on the plaster and fascia, and those two bridges seem to be nicely weathered. Excellent work on the backdrop, too. [tup]

Sure is a great feeling to “drive that golden spike”. The layout looks great.

Ron;

That is looking great! Holy Smokes![:O] I grew up only a few miles away from Decatur TX, in Boyd Texas… what a shock and joy to see some one model a place from my own life! I cant wait to see more!

Peace.

Nice work. Clean lines on everything makes it look sharp.

Will you keep this post going with updates?

Looking pretty good!

What’s your secret for the clean fascia ? I don’t see any screws.

Well, I’m sure I’m not doing Decatur Justice. I am representing Poco Graphite Inc. on the layout and will have the Decatur water tower on the hill behind some trees as it appears from the front gate of Poco along with a couple of “container” and “boxcar” shantys that sit along the main line. That’s about it. But it is always good to hear from people along that pike. I’m modeling BNSF’s Wichita Falls sub from Fort Worth to Wichita Falls. (Yes, I know, the loco in the photos is UP. Its left from my previous MoPac merger layout and I’ll use it to haul interchange traffic on the new layout in Fort Worth.)

Ron

It all looks very nice.

Did you airbrush the clouds on? They look real. I need clouds like that on my 11X7 pike.

nice pics! really like the one of the train on the bridge’s.very well done.hopefully more pictures when you get time.[:)] terry…

The clouds are painted on the background with a wet-on-wet thehnique. I roll the blue on. While it is still wet I brush white over it on the bottom and blend it in working upward about 1/2 way (8"). Then, whil all is still wet I stipple the clouds on with a 1 1/2" squared end brush, blending the bottoms of the clouds in with the “haze” I created earlier.

Ron

So if I understand you correctly, its all hand drawn without the use of stencils or air brush? I think I’ll try your method.

Hey, Ron!

That’s exciting news, indeed! It looks really good! And, I agree. I like what you did with the backdrop. I look forward to seeing more pictures of the progress on your layout.

Tom

Tom, you changed your picture yet once again! From pink foam to brown foam to ??? Not sure. Looks like a signal of some sort.[:)]

[#offtopic]I just placed a few SW900 switchers into a consist for the first time on my NCE power cab. I like it. Very cool.
