This evening, while driving along New Avenue between Lemont and Lockport, we were met by an eastbound freight train on the adjacent track. We know that CN now owns that track, and UP has trackage rights, but this was a BNSF manifest–all BNSF power, lots of BNSF freight equipment behind. Could something have been wrong on the former ATSF east of Joliet?
I read somewhere, TRAINS probably, that BNSF is dispatching the old GM&O tracks, now CN, from Corwith to Joliet,
When I worked Corwith back in 1951, there was no connector to the GM&O southbound (physically west at that point), only northbound. But there shouldn’t be much trouble in adding one which I suppose they have. Of course they could always go across the interlocker and then back into Corwith Yard; not the best by far.
