I just heard that SOO line is returning 20 of there SD60’s back the lesor. Does anyone else know if this is true?
Possible but… I HOPE NOT!!! I like the SD60s! Then again, it might just be that time…

There are 21 being returned. CIT Financial wants too much to renew the lease so they are going back. 20 are parked in St. Paul, MN right now awaiting the end of lease inspection. 6010 is on its way back. That is half of the Red and Grey ones.

They used to show up on the CN - GTW Mainline. Does the Indiana Railroad swap locomotives with the Indiana Railroad?

Well, when you think about it, the SOO SD60s are the odd-balls in CP’s fleet. CP’s newest engines until the AC4400s were 40-2s, and now that CP is primarily AC, the 60s don’t really fit. I wonder, will some of them but put into regular lease service?

Wouldn’t these units (SD-60’s) be towards 15 yrs old (maybe older) and aren’t they standard cab models and wouldn’t pretty much all of CP’s GE’s be newer than that, perhaps with more crew amenities? Would that necessarily be bad?
From a cost benefit standpoint, probably not. From a geeky foaming railfan perspective (me) it really blows. SD-60’s were the only real different loco on that line, maybe an occasional 40-2, but it looks like it will be all GE’s now. Oh well. At least they didn’t pull the track up or something like that.

Remember, only 20 are going; 40 or so will be left.
The first 21 (6000-6020) were built 7-10/1987.
The second 21 (6021-6041) were built 3/1989
The last 16 (6042-6057) were built 10/1989 and the 5 SD60M (6058-6062) were built 11/1989.
Soo Line bought these on their own when they were independant. The only 710 engines CP bought were the 2 for the Mount MacDonald exhaust fans.
I read somewhere that when the 61 SD9043MACs were upgraded to the 6000 HP H engine, their engines were going to go into the SD60s.
Change of plans on these locos, again. New plan is 11 going to INRD next month, the other 10 to remain with Soo Line, at least for now. Going are 6004, 6006, 6007, 6009, 6010, 6012, 6013, 6016, 6017, and 6018. Thanks to Bill Miller and his big ears. And the little bird that whispers into them.
