Sorry, but I need to whine

This was going to be the week that I made my last big push on my layout before spring activities (golf, yard work, etc.) started cutting into my MR time. I had the calendar clear (I’m retired) and had 7 whole days to devote exclusively to the layout and plans to wrap up all the loose projects and finally get the layout to the point I was ready to show off some pictures. So what happens. On Tuesday I came down with one of the worst cases of flu I’ve had in a long time. It has totally sapped my energy and appetite. I spent the last two days moving between the bed and the recliner with an occasionaly side trip to the porcelin convenience. Today, I began to feel a little more human and actually went downstairs but after two hours, I was totally drained and needed a two hour nap. I’m just now getting up the urge to try it again but who knows how long that will last. This could just as easily have come next week and given me an excuse to put off the yard work. I live on a wooded lot and after a month of extremely high winds, there is plenty of it.

Sorry, but I just needet to rant.

John, I hope you are feeling better, I have not had a case of the flu since 1962, but my secret is to take a real hot shower when I think I am coming down with a cold, etc. It gets the immune ystem really moving and into high gear. All I know is…it works.
I hope you get back to 100% real soon. I have a large yard also, so I know what Spring cleanup means. Where do you live?

Wow, sorry to hear about that flu man, hope you feel better soon![:O] Is there any possibility that you could wait an extra week before resuming golf?

When I was a kid, I used to “get sick” so I could stay home and work on my trains. Many days, I learned more from this form of “home schooling” than I would have in the classroom.

I’m the opposite. I’m looking forward to Spring, because we’ve been driving up to the Great White North to go skiing almost every weekend. It’s lots of fun and a great family activity, but it sure cuts into my railroading time.

Weather will dictate when golf season starts so that remains up in the air. Based on past history, once the golf clubs come out, the layout gets put on the back burner. That’s the problem with having two addicting hobbies, even for a retiree. I thought I would have plenty of time for both but that just isn’t the case.

I live in north central Ohio and we have had some extreme winds. Lots of downed branches to be cleanup up. Some of them are so big they have to be sawed up. There are certain chores that just will not wait so come next week, I will be a part time MRer.

Re those downed branches, do you have a wood stove? When I was living on seven acres of woodlot in Tennessee, I got all of my winter fuel by sawing, splitting and storing the stuff that fell over from natural causes.

Luckily, while Golf is addictive, I turned out to be immune. With three championship-level golfers in my immediate family, I’m not about to be the only duffer in the foursome!

At least, you’re going to be doing one thing you enjoy. A lot of wage slaves wi***hey could!

Sorry you not well.

I muself are prone to flu that triggers bronchitis and threatens fluid filling the lungs. As a proactive measure Ive made sure to get a Flu shot as soon as the health department or private doctor gets the first stock of the season. I have not had the flu since.

Your top concern is to hydrate, rest, hydrate some more and rest again.

The layout will still be there when you are better.

Bummer, bet you get that Flu Shot next fall! I’m only 42 but I’ll get every year now.

2 years ago I got my first shot, didnt get the flu. First time I didnt get the yearly flu in 15 years. Last year I didnt get it due to the shortage and got sick as a dog again! This year made sure to get it, so far so good!

The best laid plans o’ mice and men… Sorry to hear that you have had the crud, John. One gets to know one’s toilet rather intimately under those circumstances. [:-^]

If it will help the slightest bit, you are not alone. I am not ill, but I am in the midst of a wife-induced major reno of the basement, complete with covered and unusable layout. When that is finally over, I have already decided to rip up all the track and redo it properly. That includes rewiring and all, so my agitation is strong as this layout revamping is held-up. I am weeks away from running trains…although I am aware that some members here are not able to run trains at all.

I hope you can make up time in the days ahead. Go get 'em!

I feel for you! I know about that high wind and downed tree thing. I’ve got a bunch to clean up too. I just started working nights so who knows when I’ll get to that AND my trains.

You can’t get the flu through the internet can you ? Or should I be wearing rubber gloves and a surgical mask while reading the forums[:D]???
