sound for HO shay and climax

I saw on an earlier post that the Digitrax dz123 decoder works for the shay and maybe the climax.
I believe a 3 piston shay has 12 chugs per revolution of the wheels.I’m not sure about the climax but I’m guessing 8.
My question is how many chugs do you get out of that sound system?

Digitrax doesn’t make a sound decoder (yet anyway). The DZ123 is a motor and lighting function only decoder. The easiest and least expensive way to get sound in a Shay, is the PnP kit produced by Soundtraxx. I’m not sure what is being made for the Climax, but my guess is something is on the way.

The exhaust cam has 12 contacts on one side and eight on the other.
