Last night I was assembling one of the last Athearn blue box wooden reefers I had stashed away and discovered this one was missing the roof hatches. It looks kind of funny with the ice bunkers completely open, so I’m hoping someone can point me in the right direction for a replacement. The last couple of times I have tried to contact Athearn about spare parts (for locomotives) was a joke, no responses. And this was after speaking to one of their representatives at TrainFest. Are there any files out there so I could 3D print what I need? Or is there a supplier who offers these hatches?

That is surprising. I have had several contacts with Athearn including this past week. They always reply to emails and in a timely manner.

Care to pass on your contact? While I don’t expect Athearn to have these parts, I would like to get the small parts for the locomotives I am missing.
I would if I knew but they reply anonymously, no individual name provided.
But, I have contacted them on parts, on repairs, on technical advice and they always respond within 24 to 48 business hours.
The first response is always an auto-generated response with a Case Number followed up with a direct reply.
I have been able to get needed parts, send in items for repair, and get straight forward technical advice.

Does anybody make hatches as aftermarket parts? Like you can buy better detail parts for locomotives, or brake rigging bits…
