Well, nothing in Columbus itself. Best bet is Indy, Louisville, or Cincinnati.
For Indy:
Tom Metzler Hobby on Madison in Greenwood, pretty good selection, but prices are kinda high.
Hobbyland USA, one north of the Greenwood Park Mall and one near Castleton Square mall. The one in Greenwood is a smaller shop and doesn’t have a lot of model RR stuff. The one in Castleton is pretty big and has a large section of model RR stuff. Prices are pretty good as well.
Big Four Hobbies in Plainfield (take US 40 east from I 465 near the airport for about five miles). Good selection, prices are OK.
Train Central on East Washington near the I 465 exit (just west of the exit). Kinda small, but good prices.
There’s a few more out there, but I don’t recall much about them. There’s a place on Washington Street east of the east side I 465 exit a few miles. I don’t remember the name, but it was mostly Lionel stuff. I think there is another one called Big Boy Hobbies on Pendleton Pike somewhere northeast of the I 465 exit.
Louisville has a few around, the only one I remember is L&N hobbies near a college campus on the north side of town. Mostly Lionel and G gauge stuff.
Cincinnati has Johnny’s Toys on the north side. Kinda like a privately owned Toys R Us store, but has one large aisle of model RR stuff. Good selection and good prices.
Davis Trains is in Milford on the far east side of Cincinnati. Big selection of all kinds of stuff.
There’s also a railroad club in Columbus, the Columbus Area Railroad Club.
Regarding Indy Hobby shops, my preferences are (in order): 1-Big Four Hobbies in Plainfield, 2-Hobbycenter USA at Castleton Mall, 3-Train Central on East Washington (just west of I-465), 4-Tom Metzler Hobby in Greenwood.
Bartoli, ill have to look into those stores, thanks alot
Tom Metzler just closed shop I heard. The old man retired.
If so then it happened very recently, as I visited Metzler’s shop last Wednesday and it was business as usual with no sign of closing.
I heard this like a week or so ago. Someone I know said they were having a sale and then closing shop. Maybe it hasn’t happened yet, or maybe my info was bad. If so, sorry for the confusion.
No, Metzler’s is definitely closing. There’s a big orange-and-blue sign in front of the store stating as much. kjshades, I hope they gave you that 20% discount on anything you bought.
