I hope I get a chance to ride behind it!

I hope I get a chance to ride behind it!

I hope you do.
Some magical, branding iron to the brain cells, moments happened when SP 2467 (presuming the valves are set sharp and the boiler pressure is right, the 2472’s whistle is the same as the 2467’s, I think a Baldwin-proprietary 6 -chambered chime).
Back to the SP 2472, if it duplicates the above conditions of SP 2467 blasting off into a zephyr from the north, starting from Redwood City, brisk, dense air, nature’s highest fidelity sound system.
Receding sound of the sharp, cracking snapping stack talking…and then an immense incisive melodic “quill-ed” Carnegy(sp) Hall quality performance of the “Rule 14 l Concerto.”
Try to be there. Niles Canyon will supply some echoes. You’ll have refreshed, or now understand first time, the reason steam locomotives are cherished.

Two years ago I was able to operate #2742 under the “Engineer for An Hour” program. We pulled an SP caboose loaded with my family and friends and headed up the canyon. The sound of the whistle and the noise from the stack was a real thrill. While that item in my bucket list has been checked off, I am ready for a second run at it someday. The staff from the museum we so welcoming and courteous. I highly recommend the experience
