Does anyone know what SP daylight cars are still operating these days on excursions and such, also what happened to the rest of them from the early days?
Most have been gone for some time. When the 1984 Daylight train ran to New Orleans for the fair, it seems only three or four cars out of the total train were from the previous Daylight train.
I posted the pictures below that I took of the special trains Maybe someone can fill us in on the cars that are available today.

This is the 1984 special that did contain a few of the Daylight cars, but no articulated cars.
This is the train in 1991 running back to Sacramento from the Bay area. It looks nice but not the real thing since they were not available.
There are still some cars out there still in use or being sold or are in servable storage, There was a dinner train called Grand Traverse, the train is located in Iowa and the table cars are actually Two Articulated Coach Cars, Formally of Southern Pacific, I think they were from the Shasta Daylight.
Another dinner train is in branson Missouri? I’m not sure about the name but it has one of the few remaining Dome Lounges the 3600series built by the Espee Shops.

The SP only built a few of those Dome Lounges and there are some pictures in a few books of those behind steam around the loop. We have one of those in Rocklin CA, but it is in a shopping center with some other cars being used for stores.
Anyone know how many were built?
