Southern Rolling Stock

Hi everyone,

I am a new guy in the hobby and i’ve been a new guy for years now lol, I was on here under a different screen name a few years back and was on here daily (asking questions, but i had no direction as to what i wanted to model), I now live in an appartment (no roomfor a layout) and have been collecting 1940s prior Southern equipment hints the new name… and I’ve noticed I have alot more Atlantic Seaboard, and other box cars like central of georgia and some mid western stuff

Any way My question is this, Why cant I find Southern Rolling stock or Cabooses, that are prototypical? Now dont get me wrong I am finding alot of wartime hoppers that are good and Im not too picky about what they exactly look like, But it seems as though finding wooden box cars wooden hoppers, and cabooses is a very interesting challenge, and keeping the build date prior to the 1940s is seeming to be a challenge too. So Are there any tips on where to look for older southern rolling stock, thanks for the help, and im glad to be back on here asking questions!!

When you say prior to the 1940’s; do you mean pre-WWII, or up to 1950. It is not clear from your wording.

Wright Trak has a Southern caboose model kit that is suitable for 1948 and later.

Funaro & Camerlengo has several Southern kits for pre=WWII

nfmisso,

Thanks for the insight, and the links to the modeling pages. Yea, I am modeling the 1940s, so i am looking for build dates prior of course. Accurail, and Bowser have been helpful, but now i have two more targets with the sites you forwarded to me.

I also found that a site called Westerfeild… ? (<<< I think thats the name) has some great stuff too, The caboose you sent me a link to was a good find… I really appreciate it! that is a good looking kit!
