Southern's Vulcan

Has any mfg. ever made an HO scale model of this locomotive, or one like it>

Go to http://www.all-railroads.com/ , it’s the ConCor site. They have done a few Zephyr’s and one may be able to be “bashed” to what you want.[:)]

Looks a lot like Con-Cor’s Zephyr:

There are some differences, but the overall look is very similar.

Hi Jarrell, No, I’m sorry, but I don’t think there’s ever been an HO model. The prototype was one of a group of diesel-electric motor cars – note the RPO and baggage compartments at the rear – built by St. Louis Car Co. in 1939, using Fairbanks Morse opposed piston engines. There were six of them, 1 though 4, 40, and 41, and a like number of lightweight coach trailers. The Southern used them to dieselize local passenger trains named the “Vulcan” (the name that motor 40 carried), the “Joe Wheeler,” the “Goldenrod,” and the “Cracker.” They were the first use of opposed-piston diesels in railroad equipment, and different sources rate them at either 800 or 750hp. Merry Christmas, Andy

Much obliged for the answers, photos and links to ConCor’s website. It looks like I don’t have a snow balls chance of finding one of these RTR, and I’m the worlds worst kit basher and painter. [:(] I broke a very good lens photographing a structure that I had kitbashed, it was that bad.[;)]

Again, thanks for the information!

Jarrell

jacon12- I find it difficult to believe that anything YOU set your mind and talents to could turn out bad.[:)]
