Speaking of HAZMAT cars and sites ...

On my occasional trips from Fullerton into LA Union Station I have norticed an interesting industrial site just north of the BNSF tracks and west of Norwalk station. It has a lot of piping and several tank cars. I first noticed it because it has two wind socks prominently displayed but no apparent helipad. On several trips I have seen tank cars clearly labeled “Hydrochloric Acid” and “Potassium Hydroxide” sitting on the same siding at the site.

If anything bad ever happens I sure hope I’m not nearby.

That’s what the wind socks are for…everyplace that stores chemicals will have them (Note that most liquid fertilizers are also considered chemicals…)

That way if something happens, when the emergency responders get on scene, they will know which way to approach the problem… wind socks give both a direction and relative strength to the wind on site…incase there is no smoke plume to divulge that information.
