This loco has been out for a few months now and it’s from a major advertiser, yet neither of the two leading magazines have published a review.
Yes, I know the reviews aren’t worth the paper they’re printed on. Neither of the two leading magazines ever trash a product. If it’s so bad they can’t publish a positive review, they just don’t review it. The Walthers 90 foot turntable kit of a few years ago is a recent example.
So, is a review forth coming or is there nothing glowing to say?
I’ve been waiting for a review too. You’d think that the magazines would be quick to review a Spectrum steam engine.[%-)] Maybe the July MR will have it.[:)]
Hi Roger: I haven’t seen a review on the 2-10-2 ether but I have one. I got one a couple of months ago and have been very happy with it. It came with a decorder installed and unlettered. I’ve run it on dc for the most part and it has performed very well. It has very good slow starting and smooth running in all speeds. The performance on dcc was as good or better. The only thing negative is the pulling power. It handled 48 Walthers ore cars on level track but only 24 on a 2% grade. One of the guys in the coffe shop has one that he added some weight to. He put 2oz of lead in the front end and 1/2oz in the rear. That has it ballanced on the middle driver and it pulled 40 ore cars up his grade. I know that this isn’t a pro type review but thought my expereances might be of interest.
Thanks Paul.
I was going to get at least two undecs but sadly they only come with the oddball Southern valve gear. I’m waiting to see if they produce and undec with Walchearts or Baker gear which is a much better choice of gear.
I was able to add 2.5oz forward of the motor. made a world of difference!

Hi Roger: As I understand it the USRA when they designed the 2-10-2 speced out the Southern valve gear. I would imagine that Bachman will offer the undec with another valve gear. I’m going to stick with the Southern, myself.
