Thanx to those of you who provided some helpful information, I am pleased to let you know that today begins the first step toward building the layout.
I ordered a 4-point lifting system from: http://www.hoister.com and if it hadn’t have been for Muddy Creek - Wayne I probably wouldn’t even have thought of such an idea. Thanx, again! [tup] [;)]
While I expressed my thanx to all of you back then - I thought some feedback was due now. So many times we’ve all seen these “requests” posted, but hardly ever get anything back … I want be the exception.
The base for my 7x8 ft railroad will be of insulated foamboard and will be framed with lightweight iron angle along with cross braces on the underside.
I’ve decided to go with S-Scale, since my Can-Am HO layout occupies most of my basement and the Polar Express (Lionel O-gauge) runs on a shelf-system i built for it, “S” sounded just right.
Of course I’ll keep you posted … just give me some time … as we all know, these things take time to unfold.
Thanx again to all of you and to Kalmbach too for providing such a great way to exchange information - in my case, very beneficial.
[yeah] a serious, but fun endeavor with this S-gauge stuff.
The track plan will be as shown in the photo - unfortunately, the shipment was short sufficient pieces of track to complete the passing siding and the parallel sidings. Otherwise, this layout is nothing more than two simple ovals with trains running in opposite directions. With only 7 x 8 ft to work with, there’s no room for much else.
This is to be nothing more than a fun thing - run the trains - sound the horns - listen to the sound systems in the loco’s - sit back and let 'em run - kinda thing.
I’ve always liked the scale, 1:64, but availability and costs were always the bugaboo insofar as seriously getting into it.
With the Can-AM HO layout - the Lionel O-gauge Polar Express shelf system in the trainroom along with the storage room S-gauge, that makes THREE operating pikes. Obsessive, say you [?] [oops] Foregot about the two G-gauge LGB’s around the Christmas tree! [wow] [swg]
Just thought it was time to display a pix of my ceiling suspended S gauge layout (now called S Capades) that had its humble planning beginnings right here on this Forum:
Great model for us all. I promise (!) I’ll come back and share my results. I’ve learned a lot from the advice here, and want to “pay it forward” by helping others (once I really know enough!), and sharing the results.
You might want to save any left over tile and maybe order some extra. Some people say it makes “good” cliff faces when broken up with the edges painted and placed onthe layout.
