Several years ago, someone Posted a thread on making a static grass machine by using an electric bug zapper. I have the the bug zapper, but have no longer have the thread of “How to”. Can someone repost that Thread? Bob Hahn
Bob, do a search on U Tube. I built one and I must have done something wrong. I sat it aside with my other Project that are still waiting.

Here’s part 1. Part 2 is also on You-tube.
Google found this as soon as I typed electronic flyswatter static grass applicator into it.

and here’s a link to a forum posting here a couple of years ago complete with pictures:
Here’s Kevin Rowbotham’s MRH article on how to make three different static grass applicators (fly swatter, 12VDC and 120VAC).
I’ve built both the fly-swatter and the 12VDC neg. ion versions and the 12VDC is much, much better.
The fly swatter, while fine for small spots of grass, just doesn’t have the “umph” to cover larger areas.
You can build the 12VDC version for under $30, and it’s totally worth the $20 more than the fly swatter.
Time to build is about the same, too, unless you start to get silly and paint yours to resemble a giant banana:
Hope this helps
I built mine from the swatter also [4.99 at harbor freight] if you remove the resistor that he points out it will cover a bigger area and if you also use a bigger strainer it works great. Just dont get zapped if you remove the other resistor it will send you across the room LOL.
Got my flyswatters at Harbor Freight today, and I’m heading out to the Dollar Store tomorrow to start searching for strainers. What size mesh is recommended for the different lengths of grass? Reason I’m asking is that one of the videos I saw of the Noch showed a bigger mesh than what I was expecting to see.
Hi Doug, I live in Hamburg Michigan, which is between Ann Arbor and Brighton Michigan. Where is Chesterfield Mich. located? I am planning to use window screening wire for my Static grass machine. That seems to be about size mesh. Will post again with the results of my static grass machine. At present, I am at my summer home on Cape Cod, Massachusetts, and plan to make over 500 deciduous trees from Scenic Express Super Trees, this summer. My 24’x24’ layout requires about 1000 trees. I see that the bug zappers came with a AA rechargeable version and a DD version, would the bigger D battery make a difference over the A battery?
Mine has the double d batteries and works quite well. I found my strainers at a store called everythings a $1.00 got 3 differant strainers for a buck. Jim.
