Steam Loco Wheels falling off - can you identify the plastic parts?

I just bought a LionMaster Western Maryland Challenger 6-38022 4-6-6-4 on ebay. Two of the plastic parts which hold the axle in the rear wheel assembly came broken and the rear wheels fall off. I’ve tried Lionel’s site for the part number to replace the plastic parts, but the only exploded views don’t have a part number or name. Can you identify / name the 4 plastic parts which hold on the rear wheels as shown in the picture.

Also, I am getting NO Railsounds including no whistle and no bell from my brand new ZW, which works with other Railsounds Locos. This manual says I need Sound Activiation Button 610-5906-001 for bell and whistle. This may be why I’m getting NO bell or whistle, but I would expect the new ZW to handle them plus I would expect the Railsounds to be independent of the bell & whistle. Any ideas? The engine is in like new condition other than these problems.

Thank you

A new ZW (with the two power bricks) is designed to trigger RailSounds bell and whistle. You don’t need a Sound Activation button.

Check your tender’s volume control pot. Play with it. Sometimes a little dirt can get in there, so spin it back and forth. Fire it up in Command Mode and run it through the engines complete reset procedure. It sounds like this engine was used, and perhaps the previous owner shut some things off in Command Mode before you got it.

As far as the trailing truck goes, call Lionel (ask for Joe D. in Service, he’s really good) and tell him about the truck problem. Make it clear that you bought the engine used, and are willing to buy the new part. He’ll take good care of you.

It looks like the parts for the trucks are the delrin pocket inserts. I can’t imagine why they removed these.

I beleive the part number is 620-8616-339.I neded these bushings for another Lionel engine and called about them. You may want to check with Lionel to be sure I wrote down the right number.I just called Lionel Service.

Thank you all for your input. I will call customer service / tech support on Monday and get the part #. I did solve the lack of Railsounds by taking the tender apart. The circuit board had come completely loose. It was just a matter of reconnecting it. The fix for the wheels will also be simple once I have the parts. My biggest challenge is patience.

Talking with Margaret at Lionel she says they don’t have the truck bearings 620-8011-339 (close to the number you gave me) but I can order the Trailing Truck Assy for $75, part number 6sp-8077-030. I couldn’t find a site which had either part so it seems like I have no choice, and it will take 10+ days to get here from Lionel. Where do you get your parts? I looked at Brasseur & TrainRepairParts.com.

Don’t know if it will help or not but how about calling some of the Lionel service centers starting with the ones closest to you and if no luck try the ones working your way further out.
