So sorry to hear of Stein’s passing. He was kind enough to personally email me as well, in the past. I was very surprised to hear how young he was. He had the “voice” and authority of someone much older and wiser and an extremely helpful gentleman. Along with the passing of Wolfang, (who I was not able to submit a condolence for, being away) this is not only a blow to our great hobby community but to humanity in general. My deepest condolences to his family.
At the risk of sounding insensitive, I also, would like to know the reason(s) for his untimely passing.
I will think of you Stein for a long time to come.
It’s very sad news. I had e-mailed him back and forth several times. I see he was recently here in Minnesota visiting family, it would have been nice to be able to meet him. I particularly enjoyed chatting with him because both of my Dad’s parents were born in Norway, in fact my grandpa was near where Stein was from.
Sorumsand is a suburb (or at least very near) Oslo, so if there is an obituary out there it would probably be in an Oslo paper. Sorry if I missed this in a post, but does anyone know what his full name was?? I’ve tried searching online, but I’m not sure if Stein was his last name, or just the first syllable of a longer name.
Sad News… I enjoyed Stein’s Mastery of the online form of communication and his willingness to wade in and sort out all manner of track plans posted on the forums.
Thanks to Sir Madog I’ve been able to find a little more info on Stein. The family has a homepage that hasn’t been updated with info of his passing. Interesting seeing the picture of him, he looks an awful lot like me. Plus his wife is from Minneapolis, same as me.
I was able to find a posting relating to his death but it’s in Norwegian. From what I can work out it’s posted by his sister’s boyfriend, and just says he was “whisked away” suddenly and unexpectedly.
Here is a translation courtesy of Google. It’s a little off but better than nothing.
Life in General
In memory of Stein Rypern
It’s been a hard day. My good friend lost her gentle boyfriend brother Stein Rypern. He was torn away from all dear all too early. Stein was born on 23 April 1965 and was therefore only 47 years. It’s pointless, sad and no wonder life feels so terribly unfair at times. Stein was a husband to his wife Lora, father of two boys, brother to two, uncle to two and especially a son, brother and friend. Yesterday he was here, today not. How should one deal with such things happen so suddenly and unexpectedly? Linn, another friend called me to ask how Hanne had it, and during the conversation w
Stix, thank you for the Wordpress link. Batman’s Google translation is pretty accurate, except for a few words.
I’ve looked in our local newspaper, but haven’t found an obituary yet. Guess it’s to soon, maybe tomorrow. Stein and I were friends for several years, I still remember how we first met on this forum and discovered that we lived only a few miles apart. I just can’t believe he’s gone…!
