As I plan on modeling Frisco 50’s-60’s era, and need a switcher, plan on ordering a Baldwin DS 4-4-1000 prob. from MB Klein, since they have one in Frisco logo/on sale, etc.
? reccs. for sound decoder for this, i.e. prototypical sound, your experience, etc. I don’t even have my benchwork even started yet; our club where I’ll be running it initially uses Digitrax, though realize that shouldn’t really make any difference. Don’t know what decoders Klein has, but I did print out Tony’s table comparison on decoders, which I can refer to for any comments.
I will be equipping my Stewart Reading, CNJ, and PRSL baldwin switchers with sound decoders as soon as “Loksound” has the sounds available for download. The same is true for the FM switchers I have. The website shows the Baldwin and FM switcher sounds and it is just a matter of time until they have them available. Like you, I am also interested in what other manufacturers such as Digitrax are planning for these Baldwins.
Given Chris’s reply, and the other recent thread on decoders, any other thoughts? Soundtrax OK, or will the Loksound be more prototypical? By the way, unless I’m missing something, does Tony’s not carry Loksound?–I don’t see them on his decoder matrix comparison chart.
Tony’s has Loksound, or he used to. The comparison chart may have been made before he started carrying them. I’m curious if a) Tsunami diesel with have Baldwin sounds and b) how big the Tsunami diesel will be. The Tsunami steam decoder isn’t particularly small. There’s not a lot of room inside the DS4-4-1000 for a decoder and speaker. The Loksound 3.5 is fairly small as far as sound decoders go - and the Stewart DS4-4-1000 has such a low current draw it might even be possible to use the Loksound Micro.
