Stewart RS-3 Bodies

Does anyone know if the Stewart RS-3 bodies will fit on an Atlas RS-3 mechanism?

The Atlas model is a little bit shorter than the Stewart, the space between the trucks and the stepwell will be over-wide. The Stewart shell is a better fit on the Athearn (former MDC) RS-3. The Stewart shell is the least accurate of the three, the Athearn is the most accurate. If you’re trying to build a later phase model, you can splice in the Stewart long hood sections into either the Atlas or Athearn bodies. If you just need to replace the Atlas body, they’re available from Atlas.

I take it that the converse would be true for a putting an Athearn RS-3 shell on a Stewart chassis.

True… But when the Stewart RS-3 chassis is the worst of just about any diesel ever made, why would you want to?

The Stewart RS-3 chassis is very, very light, and therefore very weak (I could bend mine easily with my fingers). They are designed for Athearn components, not standard Stewart components that are more Kato-like.

I would stay away from using Stewart RS-3 frames, and stick with Atlas or MDC/Athearn.

I like the Ph 2 and Ph 3 bodies with the square air vents and thought if they fit the Stewarts that I already have it would be neat.

Thanks for the help, guys!

Sorry…I meant to say Atlas, not Stewarts.
