Stock up on Woodland Scenics!

That’s a terrible attitude. What about the unlucky people whose jobs are affected?

Did you hit the “Post” square too soon?

If so, you can go to your post, click on MORE, then click on edit. Say what you were going to say, then hit post again.

Have fun,

Yes…I would like to know why we should stock up.

Woodland Scenics’ factory suffered a severe fire Thursday morning – lost two of their three buildings. According to the news item on CNN, the fire was during business hours but all employees escaped and there were no injuries. The local fire departments had problems with a shortage of water, which made the fire even worse.

Wow! That is not good. I sure hope that they had more then one warehouse area to make all of the products. Glad to hear though that nobody was hurt.

Sad to hear about this. I always thought WS and DPM were like a mom and pop business, but after reading they have 150 employees changed my tune. I hope they can restore everything soon.

I see no reason to go out and panic buy WS products because there are other suppliers in the market – Scenic Express, Noch, Kibri, etc.

Not good; glad noone was hurt!! Hopefully it won’t be too long before they’re back up and running!

Obviously the good news is that nobody was injured.

I would like to think that it should not take them too long to get back into production of ballast and foam, and for other products they were often a repackager. The risers and inclines of white beadboard might be harder to replace since for those I think they were not a repackager but a manufacturer.

If the Design Preservation Models molds or molding machines were damaged or lost, we might see permanent retirement of those models. Someone said the figures are made in China and I wonder if the structure tooling was likewise shipped out.

Yes, the best news is that no one, including employees and Fire fighters, were injured or killed.

No need to stock pile WS products, They say it will be “business as usual” in a letter in another thread.

Though they could see a slight uptick in their sales if people panic.

besides, apparently some of their products are made in China.

I like Woodland Scenics products, but see no reason to panic buy. Diamond Scale had a similar fire accident last year. They are supposed to be up and running again soon.[<:o)]

Before taking up action, it’s better to have a good knowledge of the situation… And as WS said it yesterday: “Business as usual”.

Matt

Can anyone recommend a good place to order ballast online/phone? Regardless of the news, we need to order some.

Also,

You may want to stock up on Hostess instead, saw on the news today they are filing BK…

just sayin’.

No need to stock up on Hostess, ever. There’s nothing they make that my wife can’t do better (and better for you, too, because her ingredients list doesn’t sound like a chemistry experiment).

More importantly, the answer to your question is, just about anywhere. My personal suppliers of choice are M.B. Klein (www.modeltrainstuff.com) and Trainworld (www.trainworldonline.com), and of course Walthers carries most of the products available (www.walthers.com), although some people balk at paying retail prices to a wholesaler. But really, there are hundreds of on-line sites, and most of them are fine. Many people even buy in bulk on eBay.

They are scarcely out of business. They have buildings all over town and have already called everyone together to start production elsewhere.

So, no need to buy up product.

On the other hand, this fire will set them back financially. They’ve been a good “enabler” for our hobby for many years, so if we all go out and buy one Woodland Scenics item, it will give them a surge of income to help them rebuild.

Not necessarily. If they were ensured, all they will lose is their deductible, just like you would. Even a company’s income can be insured.
