They sure are pretty units…[:D][8D]

Two former MoP engineers I know gagged when they saw 1982.

That don’t suprise me in the slightest.[B)]

LOVE THEM!

Thanks for sharing the pictures with us.

I like the dark blue on the rear half of the MoP unit, but not the baby blue on the front.I did’nt like the baby blue on the last Rock Island scheme either. That light blue just does’nt look right on an engine. The WPpaind scheme looks better, but the gray on the rear, looks like the primer on the NS gray ghost units.I am anxiously waiting for the unvailing of the Southern Pacific scheme[8D].

Now why couldn’t they just repaint them in the good old paint schemes that the railroads actually had?

I mean that WP one could have looked amazing in orange and silver and the MP would have been great in just blue with the birds on it.

Why did they have to mess with a good thing?

i like them alot, but i do agree they could be more historically protoypical.

Maybe we are being a little too critical here. Doesn’t everyone agree that its great just to see new locomotive power in old liveries again? People may not like UP for a variety of reasons, but at least they made an effort.

Since none of the U.P. heritage roads owned SD70ACE units we will never know if they would have painted them this way or not (had they actually owned some), so let’ s not speculate and rather ENJOY THEM.

I kinda have to go with eolafan here;these are paint schemes that depict;
posssiby then, not now of some of our favorite roads. At least they (whomever)
have made an attempt to give us back some of the older color schemes that
we like.
What I wouldn’t give to see a C & O geep,or SD in original blue & yellow!

Actually, they are not in old liveries. I have never seen anything remotely near these paint schemes before, nor have I heard from anyone who has.

I also have to disagree that UP made an effort. That implies that UP tried to paint these locomotives in the paint schemes of these railroads but could not do so. I would be shocked if UP was not able to do this. They could have painted these locomotives in the correct paint schemes but chose not to do that. There is an old saying that is appropriate here, “If you are not going to do the job right, don’t do it at all.”

I think that this topic has probably set a record for the most amount of threads in so short of a time. I have found the following.

It seems ironic that Official announcement on future UP heritage units is the thread that seems to have died out since it is the only one that contains a link to UP’s announcement (which dispels the myth that there will be no “DRGW” unit).

You kinda made my point there, Eric. It doesn’t matter how perfect or accurate the paint job is, its the fact that they did it. Eric, relax and enjoy the show.[8d]

At the risk of being burned at the stake for heresy, I will commend Union Pacific for celebrating its heritage. If anyone has bothered to notice, the names of the cars in its excursion consists bear the names of past trains of UP and its predecessors, so recognition of heritage is not new for UP.

The paint jobs of the various locomotives may not be historically accurate (whatever that means), but that may be part of the point. UP is celebrating its past, not wallowing in it. Besides, all the roads being honored had several different paint schemes over the years, so which one is the proper one to use? BNSF and CSX have already enjoyed several different paint schemes, so who is to say that the roads honored would not have come up with something different if they had not been absorbed earlier.

As has been said in other postings, let’s just ENJOY them.

Ok, i dont think you quite understand what alot of us are mad about.
UP never would have done this except they need a few more dollars from enforced copyrights. They ARE NOT celebrating their past.
I do agree though that the schemes look nice.

It depends on what you mean by “it”. If you mean they painted locomotives in the paint schemes of railroads they bought, or somewhat close to these paint schemes, they did not do “it”. If you mean they came up with some type of half baked, bizarre paint schemes, then they did not do “it”.

I am not sure how I made your point. Can you explain?

I may have to gouge my eyes out before they unveil the “Southern Pacific” unit.

Well with all of the Millions of dollars of law suits there about to encounter. I guarantee that Painted Locomotives and Logo Licence’s will be meaningless to the UP here in the next few months. Allan.

“Historically accurate” means that UP would have painted these “Heritage” units in a paint scheme that the railroad the locomotive is alledgedly painted for actually used.

Any one of them. Someone (I think Chad Thomas) had the idea of painting them in the scheme they had when UP abosorbed them.

Eric, go back and read what you and Coborn35 wrote. It doesn’t matter the reason, the purpose, how historical accurate or how half baked the scheme is. UP painted some locomotives in a paint scheme other that the yellow and grey. These paint schemes, not perfect ones I might add, were done to invoke a sense of nostalgia. They were done to help people remember something from their past.

Eric, if someone gave you 5 million dollars, would you complain that you have to pay taxes, or pay the taxes and be happy with your new found wealth?

I think that some cold beverages would be in order about now. Smile, bro.
