Some folks mentioned in the General category (Prohibited "words"?) that certain words and phrases are not allowed for no apparent reason, such as “C-a-n-a-d-i-a-n” and “F-i-r-e” (words edited so it will allow me to use them). Since there seems to be no reason that these should be banned, I’m guessing that this is a bug.
Can you please fix it?
Hard to say that it’s a bug. I am guessing that some baby-sitting software provisions have been enabled at the host or developmental level.
As one of a group of owners of a popular online forum, I understand the ramifications of free communication, but I also thank that auto software of this kind is by nature disabling, and the inane choices 9e.g. the singular of colors) for banned words here reflect inattention or immaturity on the part of the chooser(s).
I really do like this forum. I sincerely hope that such silliness doesn’t drive us off it.
I do hope that everyone stays here. I’m sure not leaving!
As mentioned in the original post, we had a thread that included a disturbing message alongside an equally troubling username. In response, we implemented a list of blocked words to prevent similar content — but that list ended up being too strict.
Thanks to your feedback, we’ve since removed the list. Moving forward, any sensitive terms will be added to a censor list (not a block list), so they’re flagged but don’t prevent posting altogether.
The goal here was always to limit disturbing or harmful content — not to silence everyday discussion. You all helped us spot the issue quickly, and we’ve made adjustments within 24 hours as a result.
We really appreciate your awareness and patience. As of now, the blocked words have been removed and you should be able to post as usual.
Thanks again for helping us improve the space.
Thank you!
I think there are still some issues with the blocked words. Last night the software prohibited me from posting Billboard Horn, a Gilbert product name. The word horn is prohibited. It also prohibited me from posting that an operators problem was caused by dirty track, the word dirty is prohibited. I had to change it to say the track is not clean.
This is the first time I have been impacted by this issue.
I would be inclined to think, that if one (1) user has a “troubling username” and posts “disturbing messages”, the better solution to try first is to simply… ban the user. Or give them a time out and ask them to change their username, if you really don’t want to issue a ban.
if it becomes a recurring problem/multiple users coming up, then maybe you need to start problem solving a broader sweeping approach.

Post testing “banned” words, deleted as they worked fine.
Thank you, Nick! You have demonstrated that you could understand our concerns and deal with them! This is the kind of response that I hoped for, showing that Firecrown does care about its patrons.
