String of lights for circus and carnival

I Have recently added a circus tent and carnival to my layout. I am looking for a string of mini LED sparkle lights to place on polls around the circus and carnival. I have been searching the internet and have found a few possabilities. However, I’m throwing it open to the people who really know. Any help will be much appreciated.

Around Christmas time I saw in Lowe’s trim a tree section, a string of grain sized colored lights that were low voltage made by the same folks who make decorations of villiage sets, trees and the like. I think there were 12 lights per string, on what looked like a 28 guage wire. Almost bought some myself.

Lowes does have them around the holidays. Along with Michael’s. Any stores in your area that carry Dept 56 type stuff should have them. Even Wal-Mart had some this year. You can find them on ebay year round usually. Or any Dept 56 dealers on the web if you don’t like Evilbay. Also note, there are LED types, and the older Dept 56 bulb types. I think the bulb types look better. JMO. The bulbs will eventually burn out though. The bulb types come in a 14 bulb strand, and run on 1.5 volts. Not sure what the LED lights run on… Probably the same.

If you buy them sight unseen, inquire which type your getting.

This evening was looking in some last monrhs Classic Toy Magazine and I saw that they where using rope lights for a different project but it is worth looking into. Thanks.

I think the “craft store” lights some were reffering to are made by Lemax in multi-color or clear (which gives off a yellowish light, rather than white). Off-season Lemax items can be found at www.ehobbytools.com
