The following link is a good source for a motor but I must make the disclaimer that I am not endorsing these guys. They’re the only ones that i know that carry the motor and it works well.
The following pics should serve you well. Sorry I am not going to post them individually as I find posting pics too difficult in the “New and Improved” forum. Yes that was a dig!
There was an article on the forum one time describing using a cheapo Atlas TT underneath another TT to drive & index it. The Atlas TT is indexed to 10 degrees. I use this setup myself until I can get my stepper motor drive set up & working. If your roundhouse is indexed to a different angle, the article went into detail about how to change the gear ratios to still use the Atlas auto-index feature. As you turn the TT it stops every 10 degrees for 1 turn of the gear. Neat. I 'm using my as an armstrong, but Atlas makes a drive kit. Tweet
One merely needs to google search for “12V DC gearmotor” and look through the results. First hit i got had a 4RPM motor as the very first listing. Gearmotors are very common, so it should be easy. A 90 Degree angled gearmotor may mount easier for you.
I’m looking at this one possibly for my own HO heljan turntable. I’m sure it could be adapted for other turntables as well. I’m not sure how good a system this is though since I don’t own one myself.
Your problem is simple. Where it says Turntable#1 above you are linking to a photo on your own computer. That computer is (hopefully) unavailable from the web. You need to store the photo on a web server and then insert the path to that server.
This forum doesn’t allow uploading of pictures to it, so therefore the pictures need to live somewhere else on the internet. Photobucket is just one of many places to use. If your ISP allocated you webspace, then you need to figure out how upload these pictures you want to post to your webspace. If your ISP doesn’t offer that feature, you can signup for www.geocities.com webspace… or one of a million out there. Once you have uploaded a picture there, you can use the regular forum IMG tag: [ img ]http://www.blah.com/~blah/blah.jpg[ /img] to post your pictures.
I suspect since you’re looking for a DIY solution that the budget is somewhat of an issue.
However, if you’re looking for a quality, simple to set up turntable drive, I recommend New York Railway Supply: http://www.nyrs.com
I’ve been working on my turntable installation a little at a time over the last year and finished it up this week. The key to how any TT operates is to get things level and perpendicular, of course. But the drive part is a snap with the NYRS servo-step motor design. It is direct drive, so you just couple it to the shaft of your TT then teach it where you want it to go. No outside sensors or other fiddly adjustments are needed. There are other ways to set a TT up, but if it’s within your budget, the NYRS drive is a very good investment.
