I’m looking for a suitable sound decoder that’ll work for my older issue of Overland’s HO scale S3. It already has a can motor installed (not sure if it came that way from the factory) but what I’m really looking for is the funtional Mars light option and the ability to use the steam whistle and the air horn. Every little tidbit of info would be great!
A soundtraxx tsunammi micro with the alco 539 prime mover would probably fit. I don’t think it has the steam whistle, but you might be able to do the mars light.
He needs a ‘Steam’ sound decoder. The Milw S-3 is a large 4-8-4 engine. A steam Tsunami would be a good choice, but if you want that diesel horn as well as the steam whistle, headlight and that red MARS light, you might need something like Lok Sound - Give the guys at Litchfield Station a call and discuss this with them. They can download the desired sound and re-map the function keys for you before you install it.
I strongly suggest LItchfield Station. They answer email and have free shipping over $75.00. They have helped me many times. I order all my DCC stuff from them.
The original owner who retired and sold LItchfield now is a contributor to different Yahoo DCC Groups and is very helpful also. Below is his link.
It appears that the wheel work is nearing completing. They already have a stockpile of ‘tubes’ ready for installation in the boiler. If funding keeps up, we should see the prototype running maybe in 2012. I keep hoping that BLI or MTH are going to do an HO model at some point(wishful thinking…).
The last time I saw that steamer was back in 1996 when it was doing it’s trips in Wisconsin. Now that I’m in the Army it’s especially hard to see her in action, good thing there’s Youtube and my model of her.
As for work on my model, I’ll have to get with the people at Litchfield Station for my decoder. I remember seeing Mr. DCC’s website a while ago but didn’t have any DCC issues.
