The Super Heroes getting the bad guy!
A few pictures at the Brooklyn Roundhouse outside Portland, Oregon
Good morning! This is my first time posting to this photo thread, usually you find me in the other WPF. However three weeks back I aquired some new equipment at a local train show, and I have been working on restoring it. I picked up the pieces in order to replicate the first train set I had as a child. (Well, actually it was my dad’s train set to start with.)
This is how the locomotive looked fresh from the show.
Purist collector-types may wish to stop reading at this point!
I started by completly disassembling it, since I wanted to check out the mechanism anyway. While I was poking around the inside with my multi-meter the metal shell went into a bath of paint stripper. Then I took my Dremel and using a cutting disk I cut away the cast-on boiler handrails. As well the cast-on marker lamps on the boiler front. A literal week of work with file and fine sandpaper followed. I fabricated new handrails from wire. I fabricated new handrail stauncions from 1/32nd inch wide brass strip stock. Then it got a coat of metal primer, and flat black paint.
This is what it looks like now:
Replacement marker lamps are on order, and I also will be replacing the metal tender shell with a plastic one.
Super photo’s this week from everyone, I especially like the super hero show down!! There is a line of small super hero figures that are close to 1/48 scale, it’s a game called hero-clicks I think, that would look great with those vehicles. I have no progress on the layout to show, I have been working toooo much lately but I am not going to complain!! Here are a couple of older shots I have to share this week.

Even though the St. Patrick’s Day parade was yesterday, McGuire’s Pub is keeping the celebration going until Mar. 17, when the real St. Patrick’s Day takes place. 
This string of Lionel Lines 2400 series passenger cars seems extra large in my little village. 
Ooops! Pardon the camera shake here. This looked clearer in the camera until I enlarged it. Let’s blame it on the rumbling of the ground as this big train passed through town. Here is a clearer shot of the Lionel Lines 2056 pulling past the station platform. 
In December of 2009, I put my rare and expensive (yes, there is debate about this statement) I LOVE OHIO boxcar in a well padded carton and sent it on down the line. Today, it came home with more than a few signitures. The Ohio Central Beeps working on the Baltimore, Ohio and Wabash Railroad were sorting cars so we were able to get some really great photos.

It has been an absolutely beautiful day here in northern Wisconsin. If feels as if Spring has already arrived. The temps were in the 60’s, which is unusual for Wisconsin in March believe me. I decided it would be a great day to go out and do some train watching, so I grabbed my Kodak Brownie and headed out of town along the tracks. South of town there is a great old bridge over the Wisconsin River on the old Valley Line of the Milwaukee Road at Knowlton. I positioned myself at one of the bridge and I wasn’t disappointment. There was a regular parade of Steam.

GREAT job on that display case!! The lights inside are a really nice touch. Is it one large case or did you build it in sections so it can be seperated?

Sorry Buckeye, there is a tiny bit of black W/S ribbon with grits in it hidden in/on that box car. In fact, every car that left Rolesville had the same. [:-^]
Crip - The withwalls on the cars in the autocarrier are original as are the cars.
Greg - Thanks! Your car gave me the idea several weeks ago. I took a banged up roof stripped it and took cold blur for guns to apply the finish. The chrome smoke stack is painted.

Sorry my foot. There is nothing in the car. A beautiful certificate prepared by Mr. Baker accompanied the car. Your grits never made it to Buckeyeland. Probably confiscated for contraband somewhere to the west of Chicago and fed to the pigs.

Cases were made 40 inches long, 4 seperate pieces. Then hangers were placed under them and tapconed into the basement walls. The toughest part of this was doing the wiring and securing the track inside the sections. But not too bad.

Got to run this on Saturday. Paul, great idea about the Hero-clix. I have a few populating the layout. Love the platforms buttressing the track. I’ve wanted to do that. Buckeye, sorry for the graffitti.
