I do have to get people for my layout. Great pics Stugreon-Phish. I redid my caternary so my 253 can ride the inner rail.
Here are a few pics of our Trolley layout at the museum. This is an O scale two rail layout. This is Downtown Chardon, Ohio in 1918.
And this is Burton, Ohio
Nice photos gentlemen. I always look forward to seeing this thread.
Last weekend instead of posting I was out doing some excursion railroading. My son is in college and has been volunteering at two excursion railroads in the area. He has recently earned his fireman’s status on one of the railroads. We travelled to Duluth Minnesota to ride on the last excursion run for the season.
This is on the Lake Superior and Mississippi
The track runs right along the water. We saw lots of Canada geese and a flock of Swans.
I had the opportunity to ride in the engine and watch the action up close.
Their passenger cars are from the teens, and this one was refurbished years ago by the DM&IR.
A video I took at the Horseshoe curve last thursday. (YouTube fuzzed it up tho)[:I]
My wife Carol is watching the train go by.(Blue shirt & white bb cap)
Beautiful trolleys - I like the red striping around the windows, Jim. Isn’t it interesting, Tom, how the traction companies pioneered amusement parks, gazebos and the like as destinations for their customers?
Doug - Have you ever had the chance to drive a real streetcar? I’ve volunteered on the Como-Harriet streetcar here in Minneapolis for 4 or 5 years now. It’s great fun to drive it! Toughest part for most motormen (and motor women) is learning to use the air brake and the momentum of the car to stop it exactly where you want it.
The young kids often get the biggest thrill from riding it too.
Speaking of amusement parks - the Twin Cities Rapid Transit company built an amusement park out in the middle of Lake Minnetonka. People would ride the streetcar out to Excelsior, MN and then transfer to a streetcar-boat, which would take them over to the island. The Excelsior Amusement Park is gone today, but how cool it would have been if it was still around!
The museums biggest event is coming up at the end of this month - “The Ghost Trolley”. Check it out!
Brad
Someone mention streetcars?
Why - yes! Yes we did! [:)]
Great photos guys. Sturg, hope you two are not thinking of “lovers leap”. [:O]
It would be great to be a real motorman. Locally, we have a few museums that would eventually allow it - the East Troy Museum, Fox Valley Trolley Museum and Illinois Railway Museum (which started with traction) - when the kids get a bit older, I hope I can volunteer.
