No disappointment this weekend, the pics are great as always. John, sure like that Blue Comet, I have the one Lionel did back in the 80s, no comparison for detail. Sure looks like MTH did a great job. Of course the one I have is silent, and no smoke, I think it has a headlight.
Beautiful pics everyone, your layouts are beautiful, mine is somewhat more spartan in apperance compared to the rest; I guess a 40x60 oval is about as spartan as you can get. But, I’m extremely new to model railroading, and I just got my first train this week, so these are my first official pics. I’m hoping that they are the first of many more to come. I know they are not much, but I’m proud of it. Humble but full of promise.
This is a photo-stitch of my Berkshire and tender.
Passing the torch to the 5th generation of model train engineers.
Here are my father’s engines on his display, its still waiting for him to retire before it takes on a real life of its own.
ATSJer,
Don’t sell yourself short on how spartan your layout is. We all have to start somewhere. I got back into model railroading back in December when I too purchased to Polar Express set. I had all of my dads old Lionel postwar trains sitting in boxes down in my basement waiting for me to catch the train bug. I bought the Polar Express set for under the christmas tree, and the rest as they say is history. My son just turned 2 last Friday, and the joy he showed when I first set up the train under the tree convinced me that I needed to jump into model trains with both feet.
Over the past 2 weeks I have been posting pictures of my basement layout progress. I have all of the track setup, and am now moving into the landscaping and accessory phase of constuction. I have been having a ball building the layout, and my son loves watching the trains run around the new layout in his basement.
I truly look forward to sharing this experience with him throughout his childhood, and hopefully into his adulthood. Keep us posted on your progress.

Great shots, everyone!!! Here a few station shots!!
John,
The Blue Comet is beautiful!!! But, where did you get the overhead lines for the interurbans? Did you make these??
I am planning to purchase the Lionel South Shore, as soon as it’s shipped, (July; sigh) these would be a perfect addition.
Kurt
PS The new photo makes you look like a man of liesure!
Thanks everyone for sharing your photos.
They were all GREAT !!!
Especially the young boy on the carpet. Brings back memories.
BTW…It wasn’t Chief…on the carpet.
Oh, the pictures just keep getting better !! Thanks everyone !! I’m waiting to see more of Frank53’s tubular track though !! [(-D] Plus his layout progress !! [:)]
John : Jeffelectric, yes, it was the little oil tank by the tower I painted silver !! That was a big job painting that !! ( about 1 minute [(-D] )
Just got back from Wallyworld with a new Cobra !! Only a couple bucks !!
Thanks, John
Buckeye, Check out some of the pin striping tapes, they are great for simulated banding on pallets & crates, etc.
As usual great photos. [tup][tup] [bow]
Thanks John, I’ll get back to you as soon as I sober up!
Hic!
53 : do people tell you that guy in the picture looks like Otis from the Andy Griffith show ? ! I always think that when I see that little guy !! [(-D] Glad to see you post !!
Thanks, John
JOHN JELECTRIC - Both engines are about the same size. The track on the right is slightly higher than the left track.
I just had that discussion with a fellow who stopped by yesterday. I referred to this guy as Otis Taylor and he pointed out the guys name was really Otis Something Else.
Huzzah and hello to you from his Highness, the Rail-King! 'Tis again Sunday, and time for the weekly Royal Photographic Update.
Hello, howdy, greetings, bonjour, hola, aloha, guten dag, et cetera…
I noticed this propaganda all over the kingdom. Which one of you’s been pinning these up???
See you next time! This is the Rail-King, over and out!
Well, that means we have to launch a full scale investigation to get Otis’s real name !! [(-D]Maybe someone here will know !!
Thanks, John
Here are a few:
Ready to try and hop the Santa Fe:
New York Central pulling up to the loading dock:
and around the corner with a 726 in the background on the upper level:
lots-o-lights:
This project has been my backbreaker - last structure I need to finish before I can finish the top level:
Am using plasticstruct angles and straights to define the floors, which will be represented to be concrete pillars and slabs, with brick work between floors.
Got one side done, and will be glad to get this step finished.
Added 1/8 styrene frames around the windows, which provides a better fit.
Got them painted and placed, and finished the concrete trim up the left side:
Although not evident in these photos, all twelve windows - six on this add on structure and six on the main building - all have crosshatch “bars” in teh windows. What a pain that was:
Well, that means we have to launch a full scale investigation to get Otis’s real name !! [(-D]Maybe someone here will know !!
Thanks, John

This week I purchased my first ATLAS Industrial Rail Car.
The trucks are die cast. I am still trying to learn how to remove the lumber load. I would like to add simulated tie down strapping. Good quality for a reasonable price.
I want one of those.
Great shots guys! Gotta love that Blue Comet, say lionel has one in American Flyer??? May need to check that out. I’ll post some pics tomorrow if possible.
Jim

As usual great photos. [tup][tup] [bow]
Good idea. I have seen some real narrow tapes in the LHS that I think they use for masking.
Highrail Jon, love the MTH weathered station. How did you do the weathering?
Great photos and a variety of subjects, which makes it much more interesting.
