Could some please help me. I would like to know if I could enter the sweepstake competition if I agreed to pay all freight costs involved in sending the prize to Australia that if I am lucky. I am a paying costomer and I feel let down by the magazine because of logistics our countries are close in everthing global so why should this competition divide us.
Fairness demands that since people are allowed to subscribe (at a higher rate to cover transportation); they should also be permitted to enter a publication sponsored sweepstakes if they are indeed willing to pay the difference in transport cost.
I can understand that Kalmbach does not want to get stuck for great cost of shipment, but if a person were to acknowledge responsibility for shipping cost if indeed a winner, and after notification of winning have a set amount of time to remit payment for the shipping; I cannot see where Kalmbach would be out financially and it would build goodwill for the publication!
Any consignment considered for any consignee willing to compensate for continental consignment should be most certainly considered. I shall communicate our considered conviction forthwith.
Until then, as I remember, some of the places they don’t allow is because of the differences in lottery (sweepstakes etc.) laws and it would be to hard for them to be able to abide by the rules in all countries. So yet again those pesky laws get in the way of people having fun. [sigh]
Didn’t think of it from that angle, but on the other hand, you see those sweepstakes offers that are not valid in certain states for that reason, so why should it be allowed in those states and not all countries? Isn’t it afoul of those laws in those states within the continental US?
Seems to me that NJ was one of those where those things were always excluded!
Hi 3609. I wish I could say “yes” to your request, but alas, I can’t. As Jack stated, some countries have rules about “games of chance” such as this sweepstakes. While I don’t claim to understand all the rules, I do know that some countries just don’t allow sweepstakes, even if you were to pay the shipping. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. I wish we could open up the sweeps to everyone, but some countries just won’t allow us to.
3609 ----- That sounds like you need to come to some sort of arrangement with a mail drop firm that can accept your prize if you do win and ship it on to you. That way you can do just like the big corporate guys do and have everything to all intents and purposes appear like you are indeed stateside!
All this over a 40ft Santa-Fe Grand Canyon G-Scale Refridgerator car. If the sweepstake was all about money then that would be a different situation. But to stop me from entering over hobby products is quite silly actually. So if I accept the freight costs plus an extra dollar, then I am really receiving a product I paid for. There must be some way around this silly situation as I pay for the magazine and all the club benefits. Don’t think that I am a whinger or the like, its all about the principle of the matter.
