switch stands

I’ve just started on my 2nd layout. And I’ve been thinking about some things track, water, hills and so on but one idea hit me switch stands so I grabbed my wallet and headed to the city and bought a brunch of them to see which I liked best. I tired about 5 of them but none worked then I wondered if there were working switch stands because all of the ones I tired were stationary and they were [tdn]. So all I’m asking is are there working switch stands[?].

Caboose Industries makes ground throw types of switch stands.Who made the ones you bought ? Joe G.

Well, you can always kitbash one. I have these non-operating stands that I plan to drill and add a piece of wire to. The wire is bent so they throw the bars when they’re turned.
I don’t plan to use them to actually throw the switches, but just to have the flags in their appropriate positions along with the track.

Caboose Industries also makes a stand type throw. The look and work great, and come with a nice selection of flags that can go on the shaft. The thing is that these are for hand throwing only, because they do lock into position.

There was an article in MR MANY years ago about making your own from brass wire and sheet. I haven’t built any yet, but according to the article, they really work.

Either check MRs index or I’ll look it up in my personal index when I get home…If I’m not asleep as soon as I walk through the door.

Rix makes one that is usually available at the LTS.
