I have a problem. I love Sylvans Models truck and car resin kits, but the tires are terrible. Is there any supplier that sells 1/87th scale tires that might fit the stock Sylvan rims. If I can find some wheels , I’ll be getting more of these kits as they offer some really cool stuff.
"Ello,
As a scale modeler, I’m all about right/nice tires & details!
Could you post the sizes of tire you need? (Rim Size, & style of tread)
I’ve customized Trucks, cars, & offroad vehicles, so I may be able to be a great help in this quest.
IIRC, Sylvan makes a lot of big rigs, & I have a lot of wheel & tire combo’s for those, many are A-Line & Lonestar, & some others like Herpa & Busch. Busch has a “Tire Load Set” which is incredible for cars & suv’s if you want to upgrade.
Please let me know your rim measurements & we can figure it out. If you want Pix, I’ll be happy to shoot some. Just ask!
The two Sylvan vehicles I need tires for are a 1950 Chevy Cabover and a 1941-46 Chevy cabover. I’ve looked at the 50 piece tire set from Herpa.#326-5358, are you familiar with it? It would be nice if that would work. I dont have the rim measurements right now, but I’ll get them later. As for the tread, Im not that detail oriented as long as it looks nice. Thanks for taking a interest and posting.
You’re welcome!
IIRC, the set you posted are used on the Ford, Mack, & IH Herpa tractors, & are plastic & low profile for a large wheel. Please search these part numbers on Walthers site; 5 Hole 116-50075, 6 Hole 116-50073 those are both 10 bolt wheels & there are others in the 6 Hole wheel that have a 6 bolt pattern 116-50072.
Those include plastic wheels & rubber tires, so painting is easy. They may be the best aftermarket fitment to the model you have, in size & style. One tip is to use some 400 grit sandpaper to rub off any flash from the one side of rubber tire (if there is any) & mount that side to the inside of the vehicle.
Please share your thoughs after you look them over.
Thanks!! I will look them over. I was kinda wanting to stick with replacing just the tires, because of the design of the Sylvan kits, its better to keep the stock rims because of how there mounted to the truck. I can still use other rims, it will just require some reworking.
