hi guys . does anyone know where to buy table leg height adjusters ? i am talking about the kind that you install in the bottom of table legs after you drill a hole in the bottom of the leg . it allows you to level the table buy turning the threaded bolt in or out .lowes and home depot do not know what i am talking about .my layout room has a slight slant from the center to a drain at the end of the room and this is the only practical way i can think of to level the table . maybe i am asking for it by the wrong name because no one seems to know what i am talking about . any help will be greatly appreciated RON
Hi Ron–
They are called levelers. A Google search should turn up results for you.
I’ve always known them as T nuts
I got mine at Home Depot. The pack included the nut, and the foot.
Are you referring to 'T’nuts ( http://www.insertsdirect.com/showStyles.asp?prodid=228169 )that are pressed into the hole or a threaded insert that is screwed into the hole ( http://www.vandykes.com/discount_product/02365730/ or http://www.woodworkingparts.com/brass_inserts/photos/flange_hexinsert.jpg ) I have used both kinds in two modular clubs (HO and Nscale). The 'T’nuts are cheaper but are more likely to fail. While the threaded inserts, as in the words of Bob Vila,“May cost you more up front but will pay off down the road.”
I have the same problem with a slanted floor. I bought some 1/2" nuts and bolts. Drilled a clearance hole for the bolt in the bottom of the leg and then a larger hole for the nut to be pounded into. Worked pretty good. Nice and sturdy.
A trick i learned is to put the T nut into the end of the leg. Then buy a PVC pipe cap that will fit over the leg. Drill a clearance hole for the carrige bolt in the center and then on the out dies bevel it out with a little larger drill. Put the carriage bolt in the cap and tighten a lock washer and nut down onto the carriage bolt. That will lock the the square head into the plastic cap. You can then put that into the end of the leg. the cap spreads the weight if the leg is on carpet and the cap is big enough you can turn it by hand to adjust the level.

thanks guys . that is exactly what i looking for . now i know they are called t-nuts and they may know what i am talking about when i call them by the correct name . again ,as usual ,i appreciate the help . RON
I got mine at Lowes. They are in the same section as furniture sliders and carpet protectors that you put under furiture legs.
I’m not exactly sure just what kind of stores you have there in Small Town North Carolina but if you have an ACE TRU-VALUE Hardware Store particularly one with a secure parts department what you are looking for is an ELEVATOR BOLT.
These things have a thread capacity compatabile with a 3/8 in T-Nut; the base is 1 1/2 inch diameter and it is adjusted in the T-Nut with a 1/2 inch wrench. They are not as cheap as these stupid stove bolts which every one seems to want to use but they don’t slip all over the floor either.
Yep, T-nuts with appropriate size bolts. The elevator bolt suggestion is also a good one, particularly if you want to give more protection to carpet or a hadrwood floor, as the larger head spreads the weight through its increased contact area.
If you want to go really cheap and intend to simply level a leg once in constructing a permanent layout, you can also use lag bolts. The adjustment is a bit coarser and they aren’t suitable for portable operations that require repeated leveling, but they will work well if you drill an appropriate size pilot hole.
I use T-nuts and hex head bolts from Lowe’s.
Home Depot, Lowes or try a True Value,DO-IT-BEST or ACE Hardware store.
Are there any furniture refinishing stores in your area?
I used them on mine.
Put a level on the tabletops and adjust until I get zero-zero- both ways.
