Hi, what types of tank cars were used to haul bunker C Oil in the mid-1970s? As I understand it this period of time was seeing older types rapidly replaced with larger more modern versions, but I haven’t found any articles or online sources that delve into this in much detail. I model in HO scale and am interested in models to haul bunker C oil to power a paper mill based in the northeastern US.
Bunker C is pretty thick, so you’re looking for insulated cars with internal heating coils. The heating coil hookups aren’t very obvious, but insulation jacketing usually is.
The older Walthers 20K gallon “Funnel Flow” tank is a 1970s Union Tank Car insulated prototype that would work.
The Atlas 23,500 gallon tank is a 1970s AC&F insulated tank.
there is a tank car in G scale that holds liquids it was like 50 online but i think it would need a overhaul to haul much more then bath dertergent or water
