TAT III Throttle -MR issues appeared in?

Can anybody tell me when (what issues) the TAT III articles appeared in MR. Linn Wescott was the author and I have tried using the DVD database search but it doesn"t show me squat. I"ve entered it everyway I can think of but no results.

there is an article in march(?) 1969 entitle “Improved transistor throttle” that describes the TAT-IV circuit

there is an artile in Feb 1962 entitles “Getting closer to realistic performance”, and

an article in Jan 1962 entitled “Seven circuits for transistor Throttles”

There was an article in the April 1988 issue about the TAT V.

There was an article in the March 1969 issue about the TAT IV.

If you go to the DCC/Electronics forum and search through there for true action throttle or TAT, you’ll come up with a couple threads concerning them.

One of the postings indicates that the original series of articles was in 1962. If you have the CD, try searching through that year.

I’m not certain that all the articles were written by Linn Westcott, other than the 1969 article.

August 1963 (IIRC) had an article on building the TAT3. It was strictly a construction article, not much on how to customize/use/set up the throttle.

Some of the functions would be difficult to replicate now on a component replacement basis. Some features depended on transistor “leakage” that is not found in modern replacements.

my thoughts, your choices

Thanks everybody. The article I was looking for was in the Feb '62 MR. I built one of these and it’s still lying around in the basement somewhere. I used a Marnold (for you older guys) throttle and thought I was really on the cutting edge. (guess I was for 1962). As can motors came into vogue later, I found that I could not stop a loco with a can motor because the Marnold did not have a true “off”. OOPS! That’s progress I guess.

IIRC there’s a wire you can cut on the Marnostat which allows for a true “off” position.
