Hi Folks,
Can someone please tell me the correct name for the type of rotary switch I need to order for the following project? I want to incorporate one 3-aspect LED signal to one end of the mainline of a 2’ x 8’ portable “time saver puzzle” type HO layout. That end of the layout leads to a cassette that serves the double function of (a) loading and unloading the train onto/from the layout and (b) if desired, use the cassette as an additional yard area, making the switching puzzle easier for smaller kids. The layout is going to a foster home for kids. This is a simple, basic DCC, bulletproof layout. I want to install a simple, basic, bulletproof 4-position rotary switch. I have already tested the signal and it works with the layout’s DCC power. It has a resistor on one wire, and three wires (red-yellow-green) for the appropriate aspect signal. None of the electrical supply stores near my small town has the switch, and I need to know what to call it so that I can order it on the internet. It has to have one input to route power to one of the three aspect lights, plus a “dead” (off) circuit. So, it is a 4-position switch.
Please note that, with the best intentions, people are going to want to suggest different ways of doing this, but I beg of you, all I want to do is the rotary switch, not one of the thousand better ways of doing this. It is not a block light, it is not an occupancy light, it is a humble traffic light… This is not a contest layout or a layout to dazzle model railroad experts. All I want is the name of the switch to look for. Thank you for your understanding!!!
