TFM in Brazil

Hi guys,

Brazilian broad gauge MRSL received 20 ex-TFM C30-7 this month. More is coming soon. It will be great to shot them on the lines with original painting!![:D]

May we have some more, please?

It looks like we’re going to have to fly to Brazil to see old GE’s, on at least four different roads (ALL, CVRD, FCA, MRS) on two different gauges (meter and 5’3").

Hi Ed,

here are more pictures of them at Rio de Janeiro port. Soon I can see them on the rails, because the MRS C30-7 uses to run near my town. Last weekend I met one of those old BC Rail pulling an iron ore train near here. It was great!

Where these GE C30-7s originally American? Or where they delivered directly to Mexico?

Do they get the 8 axle treatment?

By the way, Pedro, nice government roundhouse!

greetings,

Marc Immeker

I´m not sure yet, but I think the TFM units came directly from Mexico. They will run on C-C normal trucks because MRS is broad gauge. the trucks will be spread out about 150 mm.

Pedro

Will they Paint them Engines?

Not for while. They will run with the same collors, but without TFM letters, in the same way the UP, BCR, NS and others C30-7 that arrived here in the last two years. But they will be painted in MRS collors as soon as they go to the shops to do any kind of repair.

This week I met some TFM C30-7 along the road I weas driving. Here is a pair of them leading an empty iron ore train.

Here is one at Joaquim Murtinho yard. Nice to see them with TFM painting yet.

Thanks for the photos.

You got a few more headed your way…didn’t get a chance to photograph them, but they went to the docks last week.

Pedro, how do they go about changing the gauge on the conversions? Do they cast new bolsters and other cross pieces or are they able to weld them? Welding seems a bit dicey for this application but I suppose it could be done.

Thanks Ed,

I´m wainting them here.[;)]

Hi tdmidget,

the narrow gauge railroads use brand new trucks special built for them here in Brazil, but the broad gauge companies like MRS and Ferronorte (now into ALL control) use to cut the truck frames in the center and add a piece of cast special built to joint the parts again. This part allows the trucks be a bit wider to fit inside broad gauge lines (about 16 cm) Thes part is welded in place by a company here specialized in doing jobs like this.

Here is an ex-Conrail and TFM C30-7 leading an empty train at Pedra do Sino yard. it was great to seen them in original collors.[:D]

Hi Pedro, thank you for the photos.

How many ex BCR locomotives are in Brazil ? Just the 4 B36-7 on MRSL (3622, 3623, 3625 and 3626) ?

Yes, just 4 units for while. I´met one of them sometimers ago leading an iron ore train. They´re still wearing the BCR collors, but with MRS initials below the cab windows.
