The Coffee Shop (a place to chat) Est. 2004

OK, I can’t say I’m familiar with 54th & North, but I’ve traveled through the area on the way to Walther’s and a hobby shop up on 80th & Burleigh. The CNW tracks in Shorewood, those would be the ones that go through Estabrook Park?

As for me, I’m out on the SW side just spitting distance from the city limits. Oklahoma & 84th is close enough.

I’m no dog psychologist, but it sounds like she’s bored.

Read some books on wolf psychology and pack behavior. You’ll get a lot of insight into your dog’s behavior.

This morning before Bob heads outta town I’m taking him to my LHS and two turntables, one is actually still operational.

Hope everyone has a good week. My next project will be straightening out some rail and reballasting! Funny how, when a new engine rides your rails. Track that was thought to be good, is less than perfect and a source for new “sights of action” or a “CNN Hotspot”.

Have a good one
Fergie

Good Mornin’ Everyone,
It’s a beautiful morning in the mountains this morning. The coffee is wonderful. It’s about 42 degrees on the front porch and the air is clear and crisp. It’s supposed to get up into the high 60’s this afternoon. The leaves are starting to turn and it’s going to be a wonderful day. I’ve got a few errands and odds and ends to take care of, and then it will be a model railroading day.

The L&N tower is painted and assembled but still needs to be weathered lightly. The water tank is painted and the subassemblies are ready to go together. The are both Walther’s Cornerstone kits and they are very nice. The tower is actually two kits combined to make a longer building. I had to make a new roof to fit the longer structure and used Cambell’s roll shingles to cover it. That was interesting. They actually work very well. They’re just a little fiddly to use and time consuming, but they look good when it’s done.

Fergie, I’m glad to hear that the cattle the other day were in good hands and well taken care of. We’ve never tried bell peppers on burgers before. We use them on lots of other things though. We’ll have to give that a try. Sounds really good. I’m glad you all had a good time while Teffy was there. Sounds like it was a lot of fun. I’m looking forward to them getting here. it’s too bad about the Mountain’s unscheduled excursion but stuff happens sometimes.

Paul, sorry about the continued references to food, but we’ve got to keep our strength up for model railroading.

Fla Phil, I’m glad to hear that you’re finally getting some good weather. Ya’ll have surely got a good long spell of it due. I hope it lasts for a long time.

Teffy, sounds like the trip is going well so far. I’m really looking forward to you getting here. Let me know when you expect to be here so I can get in touch with Bill. We’ll have fun.

Adrianu, that’s a tough one. There are lots of them. I will say that one of my favorites is Paul Dolkos’ Bost

Morning Coffee Shoppers,

(That’s in the sense of being regulars or visitors here, not implying that you’re out at the supermarket looking for a pound of Starbuck’s House Blend).

Hope everyone had a decent weekend. No hurricanes reported. Glad to hear that Teffy made it to N.S. without mishap (at least to him and family, not including his Mountain).

I tell ya, the Bosox make the playoffs [:D] (okay, so it’s a wild card berth, at least they’re in) and how about them Giants, eh? [:0] Sorry Noah, hope Favre isn’t seriously hurt. I’m basking in temporary glory, but steeling myself for a possible letdown later this week as the playoffs progress. Who knows? This could be our year. The Red Sox … could … go … all … the … way! (Yeah, right, forgot about “The Curse” for a moment). [;)]

Our weather improved a bit. We have a front coming through this week so it should stay cloudy and rainy most of the week. But that will drop the temperature a bit and the highs are forecasted to be only in the mid-80’s! [xx(]

Ferg, I know you were busy getting things ready for the visit and chasing gremlins, but did you see the link I posted regarding a place to get custom decals done? Or the comment about posting ship model photos on RailImages?

You had me going with that talk about barbequing salmon and tiger prawns. I really miss cold water seafood. Not that the fish down here isn’t good, but it’s a lot different from what you find up north. By the way, how long until you ship out again?

Waiting for pictures from the visit! Sounds like it was fun. I enjoy the conversation (such as it is) here on the board, but I’d really like to be able to meet some of you guys in person. This virtual relationship leaves somthing to be desired (although if you’re far away from anyone, it’s better than nothing!)

Tom, sounds like you had a good long visit with your son. Glad you finally got to make that drive up into the m

I wouldn’t call it a mishap persay but rather a “time establishing event” which just left a small but signifigant character mark.

I don’t remember seeing the link can you either post it or send it to me please.

Salmon isn’t bad but not as good as Arctic Char, which is a cross between salmon and trout. Now that’s a good BBQ’ng fish! It’s also good smoked or planked[C=:-)]

Well Teffy an dfamily or on the road once again and are headed for Cape Breton. Got him to Two turntables and two LHS’s in Two days. So I believe Bob is now happy, I hope so anyway.

Regards
Fergie

Two turntables, two hobby shops, operating session, fall colors and barbequed salmon. He ought to be happy. Can I come, please??? [:D]

Here’s the bit about custom decals:

Here’s the comment about RailImages:

How much longer are you in port for?

Regards

Ed

Well Ed, the Red Sox made it. I was a little bummed that the Twins lost yesterday. They had a chance to play the Sox in the first round. Now they have to play the damn Yankees. I expect to see the Boston beat the Angels, and the Twins fold, so here they go again… Go Sox!!![swg]

Hello again everone. Just got back tot he Coffee Shop after beating the layout into submission for Bob’s visit. He’s on his way to Cape Breton now, after operating on the Musquodoboit, Eastern Shore and Sydney last night. His visit to the Maritime Trunk went as well as the home grown and Texas Gremlins would allow [:I] No, seriously, things went very well. The Digitrax system Bob has brought along was an eye opener too.

I’m 4 pages of Coffee shop to catch up on, so here’s a [#welcome] to JPowel, and since you ordered

how many was that for?, or, is that covered by your HMO?[(-D]

Jim:

bob tried picking our ancient cat up by the tail, something Texas cats appreciate, apparently. Not so Pampas George [}:)] who hissed and missed, but it was close[:0]

Ed:

Thanks Ed, this is only page 116, so you may have replied in more detail by now, I’ll keep an eye out. The 1 -1 1/2 oz cars run well so far. Oh! [:I][:D] just scrolled two down and there’s your answer! I’ll do the math later, thanks again.

I looked at that album some weeks ago, Ed, and there was nothing there! Di

John,

Good to have you back. We guessed you were busy chasing gremlins in preparation for the visit to have time to waste here.

No, the ship models are still on Pete Nolan’s album. Maybe you are referring to the sub-album he has entitled ‘Destroyer’ which is currently empty. Check his main album.
www.railimages.com/gallery/petenolan
They start with a couple of shots of ships at his wharf on page 2, on page 3 and 4 he has a couple more, including some that are not directly tied to his wharf, by page 5 and 6 we’re getting into model ship building. Maybe they’re not as strict as the rules say. Maybe it’s because he does have a large waterfront/wharf on his layout and there’s some tie-in between the ships and the layout. By the way, he does nice work.

Regards

Ed

Pictures anyone?

The MESS before Bob’s visit

The illfated SP4303

Bob a.k.a. Teffy after the incident

Bob and John a.k.a.DER5997 enjoying a “not so quiet time”. The ladies could here the engines all the way up stairs!

BTW pictures posted with the kind permission of John and Bob.

Hi Gang; Well I had the day off so I thought I’d get to finish mowing that field. Well it’s been raining since yesterday afternoon. I thought that I’d be able to get to the basement and do some work on the clean-up. I ended up cleaning carpets. Nuts!

Fergie; Nice pictures. Any chance you could give us a look at a diagram of your layout?

Well I’m going to take my wife out for dinner. Nothing fancy, just burgers I guess.
Take care everyone. Paul

Ed:

Yes, that’s exactly it. I haven’t gone into his main album, just the "Destroyer " one, and as you say, it’s empty.

What’s this, Paul? Dinner = Food. We all thought you’d gone off food.[:O][C=:-)][dinner] Hope they were great burgers.

Major dog house time today. The ladies were out to Dartmouth leaving der in charge of the clothes drier. I cleaned the lint from the ducts (fire risk people, should be done every so often,) cleaned up the fluff, put in the clothes, set it going, and promptly forgot it for the rest of the day. Rock hard clothes were discovered on their return.[B)][}:)][:I] Hey well, such is life…

Have a good evening, God Bless.

Sorry Tom: I meant to say “pickled Pepper Rings”, which is actually Banana peppers and not bell peppers. Like I said they give those burgers a real nice zing!

If anyone is interested I’ve added more pics on my Rail Image site.

Paul: you’ll find a copy of the MESS plan on the Rail Image link on my signature down below.

fergie- I thought " MESS " was army slang for FOOD![:o)][;)][C=:-)][(-D][(-D][(-D].
fla. phil

Just dropped in for a quick cuppa before bed-time.[|)] Big_Girl, I see my beloved GBPs lost AGAIN[;)] Hope Junior has been busy[C=:-)]

Gotta go, 'night all.

He has been working overtime. He also wonders what it would take for you to swear your undying loyalty to the Yankees??? As the World Series is on a the line perhaps something a little more substantial??? Prime Rib ???[dinner][C):-)]

If this is a query about my remark concerning staying in Fla., I’m a glutten for punisment and besides, my wife is a Fla native, certainly a rare breed today and she doesn’t like snow.

Well we didn’t have burgers. We both thourht that mexican was right for the weather. It’s cool and rainey. If any of you are in the Weatherford Texas area try Jorger’s on Santa Fe drive. Everythig is good. We had chicken fajhitas. I’m not off food. I just like to eat too much. I do love pot roast with mashed potatoes and brown gravey.

Fergie; I took a look at railimages. Your layout looks good. Did you use foam for a sub- base?

Paul

Big Girl . . . make my prime rib MR please. [:p]

Thanks guys for the Teffy report. I know he is having a good time. I think he meets up with Bill and Tom and the 13th. They may correct me if I am wrong. Anyway, long trip, I know he will be tired when he gets home.

In the trains.magazine forum is a thread we refer to as the stupid question thread. That forum is blessed with some very knowledgeable railroaders and Mr. H. himself. I asked yesterday about drawbridges and IF they actually exhisted or not. Well if you want to know . . . then you have to go [:D] [;)] [}:)]
to the link below. [:p] (Poet, aren’t I [:D] )

I did test the link. It works. [8D]
