The Coffee Shop (a place to chat) Est. 2004

***, wasn’t Ed on a trip (not sure where or for how long) at the moment? Thought he was/is, but I could be wrong. Well, I’m gone again.

Blessings,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Hin again well belly up everyone. *** glad you did get the rain we’ve been pretty dry lately ourselves spoused to rain tomorrow though. Odd weather lately high 20’s C during the day and now it’s something like 7 C the furnace just came on[:O][%-)] JP sorry about your mom i’ll keep her in our thoughts as well.Glad that your move is progressing however.Maybe that female resident was just visiting and she has a cute daughter[:D][:P][:-,][:-^] teffy or Phil I can’t remember which of you had has or used the auto return kit for a trolleycar line. i’m wondering if either of you recall the manufacturer or model? Well i’m tired again I’m off to bed later all Rob [zzz][zzz][zzz]

Spent the day making furnace filter firs–don’t have a place to plant them right now, but it made Spooky happy–and as you all know by now, if Spooky’s un-happy, all sorts of things break loose around here, LOL!

Flip–actually, my Walther’s comment was made more toward the wheelsets they used to produce when they took over the Train-Miniature line, some years back. I was buying those freight cars like crazy (back then they were pretty state of the art) and after nothing but derailments, I just started automatically stopping by the Kadee wheelsets on my way out of the hobby shop. I have no trouble at all with the wheelsets on their new Pullman Standard cars, but the cabeese I bought are pretty tricky. Finally gave up and just replaced them with P2K’s, but the cabeese seem to be weighted too much to one end (cupola). I forsee some surgery coming up.

Brian–MapQuest is a bummer! I used it to run off directions for my choir last year when we were singing at an event in my home town, some fifty miles from here, and even I couldn’t figure out the bloody directions! I’m glad you’ve got a second chance for an interview, though. Best of luck to you.

Nickinwestwales–You’d like Sr. Margie, as you said, she’s one cool lady. Before she went into seminary, she got her degree in Social Work, so that’s basically what she does around our parish (St. Francis of Assisi), along with being the Liturgy Director, RCIA director, Faith Formation leader, and planning the state convocation for the Sisters of St. Francis this year. Oh yes, she also assists one of the choir directors. She’s 42 and one attractive lady. Oh yes, she’s also my Godmother. Let’s see, anything else? Probably, but I can’t think of it at the moment. Oh, yes, since you’re from Wales, how come it is that every Welsh singer I’ve ever accompanied is a Baritone? Is it the weather, or what? I don’t think I’ve ever heard anything quite as beautiful or musical as a Welsh Baritone–and talk about PARTY animals!!

Kilroy was here, but was too tired to post anything of value. [;)]

(this is a bump incognito, was at the bottom of page 2 [:0] )

Chloe, a large coffee, OJ and French toast please…

Good morning clubbers:

Resolved the problem I was having yesterday with uploading to RailImages, now I can use them from my home computer as well. Hope I have time to answer all the replies, need to leave xtra-early this morning. I’m going back as far as pg 421…

Noah and Brian, I think I got back to you yesterday evening…

J.R., Thanx for the tip about the Scotchlocks [tup] – I’ll do anything to avoid soldering underneath my layout, always an accident waiting to happen!

Flip, Thanx for the update on Deb, better late than never LOL! Glad her recovery is progressing.

JimCG, glad to hear something useful came out of that T-storm threat (the quality time you got with your layout).

***, we just had some rain here in MD for the first time in a few weeks, I’ll try to send it your way so you can get started on that benchwork.

JP, thanx for the refreshments! Sorry to hear about your mom, I’ll add her to my prayer queue. At least you have those great memories of your grandparents; my father’s parents both died when I was 1 year old, and my mother’s lived across the Atlantic – obviously I hardly ever saw them [sigh].

Duke, that’s hopeful news about your friend Lou. Like you said, we’re all here for each other!

NS-engr, I’ll keep your grandmother in my prayers [angel]…

derJohn, glad you got to see that switching move, one of those nice little ‘bonuses’ the brighten one’s day!

Trent, good luck on those 4 exams, I’ll keep praying…[angel]

Trolley Rob, hope things warm up for you there pretty soon!

. . .
Oops, running late AGAIN…! Gotta run…

Good morning Zoe, just cutting through on my way to work. Just a coffee to go, and one of these cinnamon rolls I brought in. Please put the others in the display case for the rest of the crew coming in later - the ones in the back row of the box are the Splenda ones.[:)]

Will be fairly busy today, between work, calling the (not-so)LHS to see about that Walthers kit, and our small group at church has a prayer service after work (and then go out to eat afterwards). So it will be a bit after dinner before I’ll probably make it back in [whew!] (and our small group bunch always visits after we eat!). If it’s not terribly busy at work, I may be able to poke my head in here at some point during the day.

Hope everyone’s weather stays pleasant and that your LHS has what you need/want when you swing by on the way back from work.

Blessings,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Morning all -
Time to hit the road and finish moving. 1st though, Chloe - one of Jim’s cinnamon roll’s. MMMMMMM - Thanks Jim. That hit the spot!
Have to go see my dad at work. I just went to use the washer and there was a ‘frying’ sound coming from the control knob. I unplugged it and it stopped, but there’s deffinately something wrong w/ it.
Well all - I’ll stop in after the move is complete!
Have a great day1
JP

(bump)

A brilliant sunny day, but cold strong wind. So still needed gloves and hat for a walk to our neighbour’s this morning.[V]

***:

That would be the world famous Norwegian Blue?(This parrot’s dead!) - “Beautiful plumage!” [:-,][:D]

TrolleyRob:

If you are up for building one yorself, there’s a circuit in Peter Thorne’s Electronics Projects for Model Railroaders. (or have we discussed this before?)

Two bumps on the same page, what’s going on out on the GD Forum? I went outside to have a look, and there have been 15 posts since Ken put us back on top at 11:40 am (It’s 2:39 Atlantic now, so 1:49 KenTime)

May be back tonight, many things to see to.

Hi all

Well, the pickup wheelsets arrived as did the lighting kits, now every G scale passenger car I have is lit. With any luck the weather will be better tomorrow (pelting down with rain at the moment) and I’ll be able to get some track out and run some of my fleet. I’m also currently bidding on a Lionel 027 “Cannonball” set - the one I mentioned a few days ago has reappeared on ebay at a lower price, so this time I decided to have a bid. Finishes in four days, will report back if I get it. The other thing I’ll need to get hold of if successful is a step-down transformer (easier than trying to get hold of an AC controller wired for 230v mains), which could be interesting as I’ve no idea what wattage it would need!

Steve, the same thing happened to my grandfather - he went into hospital for a regular checkup and was informed “according to our records you’re dead” - a bit of a surprise as he’d driven there and felt perfectly ok!

MapQuest must be something like our Multimap - it’s useful as an aid to finding hobby stores in unfamiliar areas though I usually cross-reference the map it provides with dad’s GPS reciever. That thing is funny though - if you go round a few bends quickly it loses the satellite “fix”, and has been known to instruct you to “turn around where possible” when you’re already heading in the right direction, or on a motorway! You may have guessed that confusing it is a major source of entertainment…

Well, currently looking at the rain and wondering how much more there can be up there - rain may well be one of our main exports, a few reservoirs about 12 miles away supply most of Birmingham with water and there are plenty of others. It’s also a good area for taking landscape photos, though you do need to watch for inconvenient tourists wandering into view!

Bye for now

Afternoon and nothing for me Zoe as it is FRIDAY and my wife and I will be going out to eat, then I think Lowes,HD,Miejer, and who knows from there.
Will need to get back early tonight because only 2 episodes of Star Trek left(I think)and then will do some replys.

Talk to you later

Duke

Hello everyone . Actually ken it’s been quite warm here the last week or ten days. Lots of sun and mid to high seventies during the day. It’s just that we drop down to the low fifties at night so the funace doesn’t know what to think. Today it’s the low sixties and raining 'sposed to stay that way until monday[:(] Oh well we need the rain the grass was looking abit to brown.Trent Good luck on the exams Oops just heard a crack oh thunder gotta run Bye for now. Rob

Hello all, hope everyones well, if your not, don’t forget we are all thinking about you.
Glad to get out of work today, i have a lot of housework to catch up with, Nicky’s getting about more now & we have had lots of help from friends this week. We went to the local cycle shop and bought our son his first bike today, he’s three on tuesday, he picked a blue “Thomas the tank engine” bike and he LOVES it.
TOM, if you happen to make a couple hundred firs to many you could always re home them on the Yarrow Valley Sub[:D]

Well folks, as promised, I come bearing photos of the new crossing boxes at a crossing on the ARK.

I went out to where the crossing was supposed to be and got these photos:

I decided since it was Thursday night, maybe I’d wait a little while and see if I could catch the thrice-weekly ARK local. And, sure enough, about 15 minutes of reading later, the train came! This crossing was between the towns of Appleton and Rivermoor, heading towards Appleton. It was lead today by some high horse power, a SD40-2 4001.

I had a suspicion, and I was right, as the end of the train passed, I caught this gem on it!

The WSOR’s transfer caboose was on the end, which is used for a short back up move used at one industry in Appleton. It’s not used on every train, so this was a neat catch.

Really though, as long as I had the camera set up I took a few other photos. These are also the first photos I’ve ever posted of my layout I think. You can see by the back that it’s a (Fergie’s not back yet, so I’ll say it) Mess! And you can see the future site of the building I just built behind this crossing.

The crossing boxes are the first thing I’ve ever painted with an air brush, and I’m pleased with the way it came out. As you can probably tell, the road, crossing, and ground cover all need work, and the track needs ballast, but don’t worry, that’s all on my list to do this summer!

Well, I better get going, I’ve got things to do yet tonight! Oh, wait, it’s Friday! Maybe I’ll stick around a little longer then, give me a hot chocolate why don’t you.

Noah

Hello all. Chloe/Zoe a cold Dr. Pepper for me, thanks.

My condolences to all that had friends/family pass away. And my prayers to those whose friends/family have medical issues.

[bday] to those who had them and [#welcome] to all the new ones in the shop.

Noah, those are some cool pics. [tup][8D][:)]

And I liked all the pics that has been shown lately.

Oh, one more thing. I notice some in here post this (IMHO). What exactly does it stand for. You see, when it comes to online acronyms, [#wstupid]

'til later

Steve, obviously you’ve been training your son properly, based on his choice of style of bicycle. And what would the import duties be on - let’s see, agricultural products? or do they have a category for MRR stuff? [;)]

Duke, sounds like a good night out for you and your CFO. What is Miejer, by the way? I’m sure ***’s face will light up when he sees that you are helping his HD stock value…[swg] Have fun and make sure the VCR is set up for taping just in case you run later than you think in getting back.[:O]

Matt, hope you get some dry weather to try out your new G scale items. Wish you good luck on your bid and on getting a suitable step-down transformer.[tup]

Well, I ordered the (Walthers) Geo.Roberts Printing Company. Woooof! [:O] I am definitely not used to that price range (with shipping) - about halfway to the craftsman kit range (three figures)! I figure maybe if I can get three buildings out of it, then perhaps I can feel better about it. The HS dealer was cordial and gave me the info quickly for my order. Said he should have it here by about Monday.

JP, I hope you unplugged the washer before you left (to be on the safe side), right? Good!

Rob, we had that warm weather a few days ago. Today the temp had dropped quite a bit from lunchtime (when I was coming back it was almost air conditioner weather) until I got off work just a little bit ago. It’s jacket weather now. Luckily, the worst of the storms have moved on out. Northern Phil, better keep your eyes open, ‘cause it looks like the storm’s heading your way!

Noah, very nice pics of the crossing box, your layout, and that WSOR train! Looking excellent with what you’ve already done, and should only get looking better. [tup]

Going to try to finish my roadbed on module 2 (and maybe get the industrial siding and back-of-the-module track roadbed glued down before this evening’s prayer service and following dinner. Then tomorrow I may get all the track nailed dow

Just a short for now because I want to reply to JP and then to others a little later tonight.

JP-I can’t say that I don’t have some fond memories as well and it sure is tough at the time. I will say that I got wraped up in my own little world with the news that I recieved and I guess we all do from time to time and it takes friends like you and the others in the Shop to help us get through it. We do tend to forget that others have and had the same problems that we do. Thanks for sharing part of your life.

It is time to leave for now but will be back later tonight because I don’t have to get up at 4 in the morning.

Talk to you later

Duke

g’nite mates.

Just popping in to drop something off that TrolleyRob left with me

Here’s the Post-it note he left.
Hi John here’s a shot from our museum(the pics a few years old now)This is
one of our pride’n’joys ex TTC snowsweeper S-37 1927 Russell car co product.
Came to the TTC via New York’s Third Ave railway and the Boston
system(Boston was the original owner) TTC got it and it’s sisters in the mid
fifties. Our museum received it in 1973 when they were retired. We had sister
S-40 as well but it was pick up for spares. We sold the body and trucks to
Fort Edmonton little over ten years ago(they wanted the trucks for a
restoration of their own)
Thanks talk to you soon. TrolleyRob

Noah: Great work, good to see that beautiful transfer caboose earning its keep.[tup] Is that a trusty Bachman
crossing?

Flip: Thanks for the tea, and Chloe, I’ll have another piece of the sugar free chocolate bar bob left earlier.

William North, [#welcome] take a seat, and let us know a bit about your mrr plans, likes, layouts, etc. The beverages are on Florida Phil tonight as he started this page[:D]

Must run. Goodnight all, and God Bless.
